OPENING STATEMENT OF HON. GREG WALDEN, A REPRESENT- ATIVE IN CONGRESS FROM THE STATE OF OREGON Mr. WALDEN. We will call to order the Subcommittee on Commu- nications and Technology for a hearing on ‘‘Cybersecurity: The Piv- otal Role of Communications Networks.’’ I want to thank our wit- nesses for being here this morning. We look forward to your testi- mony and are very appreciative of your taking the time to be here to help educate us so we can do the right thing in terms of assist- ing you all, particularly the security networks or the cyber net- works. Back in October, the House Republican Cybersecurity Task Force appointed by the Speaker recommended that the committees of ju- risdiction review cybersecurity issues. This subcommittee has em- barked on a series of hearings to heed that call and to get a com- plete picture of the cybersecurity challenges that our Nation faces. In our February 8 hearing, we examined threats to communica- tions networks and the concerns of the private sector security firms helping to secure those communications networks.
