<!Canaba ~robtnce of ;irtttsb (!Columbia ~ Jroclamatton ELIZABETH THE SECOND, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom, Canada and Her other Realms and Territories, Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith \lro all to blbom tbege pregentg gball come - ~reeting WHEREAS the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to lead and coordinate international action to protect refugees and alleviate hardships encountered by refugees worldwide, and WHEREAS it is important to recognize that Canada has a long history of protecting and assisting refugees, and ts signatory to the 1951 United Nations Convention relating to the Status of Refugees and its 1967 Protocol, and WHEREAS the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted on December 4, 2000 a resolution naming June 20 every year as World Refugee Day to bring attention to the plight of the world' s refugees and to extend to them encouragement, support and respect, and WHEREAS British Columbia upholds the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly ~nd Regular Migration, adopted by the Government of Canada in 2018, and WHEREAS World Refugee Day 2019 aims to stimulate global action to help rebuild the lives of any persons forced to leave their native land, and WHEREAS the Province of British Columbia and its people continue to welcome refugees and make resources available for refugees and their families to live a dignified life free of fear; NOW KNOW YE THAT, We do by these presents proclaim and declare that June 20, 2019 shall be known as "World Refugee Day" in the Province of British Columbia. IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, We have caused these Our Letters to be made Patent and the Great Seal of Our Province of British Columbia to be hereunto affixed.
