The brainchild of Enda Walshe and Paddy Osbourne, Killarney Down Memory Lane has attracted over 3,000 members in the last few weeks and has resulted in the month of January just flying past for many of its dedicated followers. The facebook page is a forum where people can view, post or comment on photos from Killarney in times past – anyone can add a picture with the only condition being that they are pre 1990 and have to be Killarney related. With topics like Tops of the Town, the Café in College Street, the disco in the parish hall and the fire siren, people from all over the world are logging on and getting in touch with old friends and school mates, catching up, exchanging stories and viewing pictures. While some of the images go back to the beginning of last century the majority are of Killarney people and places pre 1990, with lots of Communion and Confirmation pictures, street scenes, family portraits and club socials to view. And with many planning to “root in the attic” at the weekend, the face book page can only go from strength to strength. Much of the information on the page is coming from the “mammies” of regular facebook followers and along with pictures these details are posted for all to enjoy. Remember, not everyone is on facebook, so if you have someone in your family who would love a trip down memory lane, take an hour out of your day, throw on the kettle, open the laptop and take that journey with them. transcription of a radio conversation between the British and the Irish MARGARET’S RAMBLINGS off the coast of Kerry is very entertaining and although the story is one of numerous versions from around the world, its proving very popular.
