RADHAKRISHNAN: Will the Minister of Urban Development be pleased to state: (a) Whether at present most of the Government departments do not have complete information about their total, encroached and vacant land; (b) If so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor; (c) Whether the Government proposes to develop a Geographical Information System (GIS) based Government land information system to create a complete land inventory in the country including the land of Government Departments and their affiliate organizations; (d) If so, the details thereof; and (e) The time by which the GIS based Government land information system is likely to be made operational? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF URBAN DEVELOPMENT (SHRI BABUL SUPRIYO) (a) & (b): Madam, as per the provisions of Allocation of Business Rules, 1961, the business of the Government of India-as far as relating to the land and buildings – is mandated to be transacted in the Ministry of Urban Development and in this regard the Ministry has complete information about total land under its control including land encroached upon as well as vacant land. Details of encroached land is contained in the list attached as Annexure-I. (c): Yes, Madam. (d): Web based land Inventory system is being designed so as to display all the Central Government land including land belonging to Government Controlled Statutory Authorities reflecting inter- alia various relevant details e.g. legal status mode of acquisition, ownership etc. For this purpose, a Working Committee under the Chairmanship of Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, has been constituted by Department of Economics Affairs, Ministry of Finance vide Office Memorandum dated 13.01.2016.
