Peace Corps is an American volunteer organization that was started in 1961 and has been in Cambodia since 2007. As of 2011, over 135 Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs) have worked in 14 different provinces and in 70 different districts, with more to come. These PCVs work as English teachers in Cambodian public secondary schools in both urban and rural settings. PCVs are paired with Cambodian counterparts, or “co-teachers”, with whom they exchange methodological perspectives and share teaching responsibilities. This manual is the collaborative effort of numerous Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs) who generously contributed the hard-earned wisdom they acquired through their experiences as English language teachers in Cambodia. The PCVs who have contributed to the creation of this manual have had thousands of hours of practical teaching experience with the English for Cambodia (EFC) textbooks – in addition to working with Khmer counterparts – thereby giving them close familiarity with the various challenges facing English teachers in Cambodian public schools today. Over the past few years, PCVs in Cambodia have developed numerous teaching materials and activities, and have generated fresh ideas for improving English education in the public schools. This manual is a compilation of these different resources. Full of warm-up and review activities, example sentences for difficult grammar, tips for teaching complex grammar, and MUCH, much more, the EFC Made Easy teaching manual is meant to be used in combination with the EFC books 4-6. It attempts to address as many teaching situations in Cambodia as possible. Whether you are using this manual as a teacher in a large, urban, well-financed school or in a tiny, rural school lacking proper teaching materials, it is the editors’ belief that you will be able to make this manual an asset in your classroom. We hope this book will ultimately be more than just the activities contained in its pages. If you are an English teacher in Cambodia, this manual was made with you in mind. Make it your own! If you have any comments, questions, or feedback about the book, or if you have more ideas to add to a future edition, please send us an e-mail at [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you! Thanks and Good Luck! The Editors 1 EFC Made Easy! Acknowledgements for EFC Made Easy! Main Editors: Gregory Bauer Preah Baht Soramrith USS, K.
