I understand we are living in challenging times as we adjust to what has eventually become a “new normal” that no one ever envisioned. Whether it is how to conduct business with health and safety measures in place, to the economic stress on a business, or just worrying what the future holds, we are all anxious to get back to something as close to normal. That relates to our local business community, as well. The Vista City Council and I are actively taking steps to support not only our residents, but also our business owners during this critical time. We have stepped up to provide assistance and information for our business community as we continue reopening the city. We have seen many Vista companies rise to the challenges when it comes to helping during the pandemic. Their spirit and determination, which is an integral component of the Vista community, is still helping our city continue to grow and prosper. Let’s continue supporting local businesses who need our help, now more than ever. I encourage you to read through this magazine to learn more about our business community, and use the local resource directory to help support our Vista businesses. If you have ideas to support Vista’s economic recovery or have questions about the recovery strategy, please contact the Business Resource Hotline: 760.639.6165 or email: [email protected]. OUR VISTA - BUSINESS EDITION | 2 City Launches Business Recovery Plan Vista Leaders add Recovery Efforts to Strategic Plan The City was on its way to create a new Economic Development Strategy with a committee called Vista Economic Development Strategy Committee (VEDS). As it would turn out, the timing was right. The committee is now also serving as the Vista Economic Recovery Committee during the COVID-19 crisis, helping create immediate, mid-term and long-term solutions for Vista residents and the businesses community. The VEDS Committee and city consultants are developing a recommended economic development strategy for the City of Vista’s economy over the next 1-10 years. This includes identifying the types of industries that would be good targets for growth and employment for our residents in the city. In partnership with City efforts already underway, the VEDS Committee and its members are responding to the urgent needs of local businesses and their employees as well as stemming the losses incurred already. The City Economic Recovery Plan includes providing counseling and resources for small businesses, responding to their needs, and supporting them in these challenging times. “We are listening to our businesses and identifying how we can assist them," said Mayor Judy Ritter. “What that may look like for each business differs; whether it’s training, using outdoor space for customers, temperature checks, Plexiglass between counters or other needs. The long-term plan is to have measures in place to continue our economic successes and resilience in the “new normal” for our residents and businesses.” Vista Economic Development Director Kevin Ham agrees that the plans put in place have worked during the various economic cycles and the City is well-equipped to handle what is ahead. “These efforts, when well planned and executed, set a successful course for the future." Mayor Ritter summed up how this crisis has affected Vista. “COVID-19 has created a shift in our economy, our business structure, and our daily lives. But with proper planning and strategic decision-making, Vista will rise to the challenge, will recover, and return to our previous successes.” 3 | OUR VISTA - BUSINESS EDITION SHOP LOCAL VISTA RETAILERS & DINE-IN, PICK-UP, OR DELIVERY FOR GREAT FOOD Support our local restaurants and retailers On behalf of the City of Vista, we are providing residents with a list of local restaurants, breweries, wineries and retailers ready to serve the community.
