Brazil: Serra dos Tucanos Trip report 3rd to 10th December 2013 (8 days) Red-necked Tanager by Adam Riley Tour Leader: Andy Foster Trip report compiled by tour leader Andy Foster RBT Brazil: Serra dos Tucanos Trip Report 2013 2 Daily Diary Day 1: Rio de Janeiro to Serra dos Tucanos Lodge; rest of the day was spent within the lodge grounds. Day 2: High altitude excursion; full day to Pico de Caladonia. Day 3: Theodoro Trail in the morning, returning to the lodge for lunch. The afternoon was spent on the Extension trail within the grounds of the lodge. Day 4: Macae de Cima trail, full day. Day 5: Three-toed Jacamar excursion, full day. Day 6: Regua Wetlands in the morning, returning to the lodge for lunch. The afternoon was spent on the Extension trail within the grounds of the lodge. Day 7: Portao Azul Trail and Theodoro Trail, full day. Day 8: Birding around the lodge grounds until departure back to Rio de Janeiro at 15.00. Annotated List of Birds recorded Total species recorded: 260 (including 51 Brazilian endemics). The list follows the taxonomic order of the IOC (International Ornithologists’ Union). Species with an * are endemic to Brazil. Tinamous Tinamidae Brown Tinamou Crypturellus obsoletus One was seen on the 5th, with another being heard on the 6th Chachalacas, Curassows & Guans Cracidae Dusky-legged Guan Penelope obscura One was seen on the 4th, and heard at another 2 locations. New World Quail Odontophoridae Spot-winged Wood Quail Odontophorus capoeira A small number were heard on the 5th, this was the only record. Ducks, Geese, Swans Anatidae Black-bellied Whistling Duck Dendrocygna autumnalis Small numbers were recorded on the 8th. Brazilian Teal Amazonetta brasiliensis Small numbers were recorded on the 8th.
