·.,. ·. ill Pictures. 1870- Present. 126,000 Items " 1he General Collection. 1870- Present. 60,000 Items This collection is divided into four main files: the Franklin D. Roosevelt file, the Eleanor Roosevelt file, the General Subject file and the Album file. The Franklin D. Roosevelt file and the Eleanor Roosevelt file are arranged chronologically and by subject. Most of these two files are composed · of 5 by 8 inch index cards with 4 by 5 inch contact prints attached. Descriptive information is included on the index card. The original prints have been retired for preservation. The General Subject file is arranged alphabetically and includes people, places and subjects. A folder list of the General Subject file is available. The Album file is arranged numerically. Both a numerical and general subject list is available. The majority of the albums·have been broken up, and the photos filed by subject. All of the files contain photographs taken by family members (including FDR), other private ·individuals, professional and commercial photographers (including news services, Pach Brothers, Lewis Hine and Margaret Bourke~White) and government agencies (including the Farm Security Administration and the Signal Corps). Some of the photographs date back to the period of the daguerreotype. The Franklin D. Roosevelt Library provides prints from its files for reference purposes only. Permission to use photographs credited to commercial sources must be obtained from the copyright owner No permission is required to use those photographs in the public domain. The Library has many photographs for which the rights owner is unknown. The staff has made an effort to determine the owner. The responsibility for publication of these photos rests with the user. The Library would appreciate a. courtesy line for the use of those photos in the public domain and those for which the copyright owner is unknown. Color Photograph Since commercial color photography was not as wide spread as today, there are few color photographs of President Roosevek The Library has some 20 colQr photographs ofFDR including a portrait dated October 1932 that appeared in the Milwaukee Journal, a portrait taken in June 1944 by B.
