The Golden Griffs are the reigning champions and 1. Canisius* (9) - 81 were a unanimous selection to repeat in 2017. The order of 2. Monmouth -70 fi nish continued with Niagara in fi fth followed by Siena, Iona, Manhattan, and Quinnipiac. T3. Fairfi eld - 57 T3. Marist - 57 In addition to the Preseason Poll, seniors Alex Fehmel and Riley 5. Niagara - 48 Hellstein were named to the Preseason All-MAAC Team. Fehmel T6. Siena - 32 was an All-MAAC First Team selection last season after leading T6. Iona - 32 the team in points (51), groundballs (33) and caused turnovers T8. Manhattan - 14 (19). She notched at least one point in all 18 games during T8. Quinnipiac - 14 the season and currently holds a 39 game point streak. The midfi elder was also selected to the IWLCA DI Northeast Region Second Team. 2017 ALL-MAAC PRESEASON TEAM Hellstein was the team leader in goals (39) last season and was Attack: one point shy of Fehmel’s mark with 50 points. As a junior she Tessa Chad, Canisius had some record breaking performances, in the season opening win against LIU Brooklyn, the midfi elder grabbed eight draw Riley Hellstein, Fairfi eld controls to tie a single game record. Then in the win over New Alexa Smith, Monmouth Hampshire she had nine points with seven goals on the day, both Caroline Crump, Niagara tying the second most in a single game in school history. Fairfi eld garnered the fi fth seed in the postseason conference tournament, topping Niagara in All-MAAC Second Team Riley Hellstein the First Round, 9-7. Then in the Semifi nals, the Stags ran into the eventual champion, Canisius, falling by a score of 10-7 in Buffalo, MAAC All-Rookie Team Lily Crager New York. MAAC All-Academic Team Kaitlyn Arnold Juniors Alex Fehmel and Riley Hellstein became the fi rst pair of Erin Bauman teammates since 2011 to record at least 50 points in the same season. Fehmel led the team with 51 points, while being second Catherine Conley on the team in both goals (38) and assists (13). Hellstein had 50 Alex Fehmel points on the year off a team high 39 goals to go along with her 11 Katie FitzPatrick assists. Jenna Fuchs Riley Hellstein Fehmel had an impressive all around season, not only leading the Kelly Holt team in points but also groundballs and caused turnovers. The do Shelby Iapoce it all midfi elder was tied for the team lead with 33 groundballs Melissa Laible and had the most caused turnovers with 19. She notched at least Caleigh O’Connor one point in all 18 games this season and has done so in 39 Maeve Quinn consecutive contests for Fairfi eld. Chelsey Sidaras Hellstein etched her name in the Fairfi eld record book with some Scareltt Sulliman of her single game performances during the season. First in the Brenna Weill season opening win against LIU Brooklyn, the midfi elder grabbed Amy White eight draw controls to tie a single game record. Then in the win over New Hampshire, she had nine points with seven goals on the day, MAAC All-Tournament Team Colleen Reynolds both tying the second most in a single game. The junior grabbed 51 Chelsey Sidaras draw controls with 3.2 per game, good for third most in a season and second most per game in program history. IWLCA Northeast Region Second Team Alex Fehmel Laible ended her stellar career with a First Team nod after earning IWLCA Academic Honor Roll Kaitlyn Arnold Second Team honors last season. The defender tied for the team Shelby Iapoce lead with 33 groundballs and caused 15 turnovers this season. As a senior she started all 18 games and overall missed just one start Chelsey Sidaras since the beginning of her sophomore campaign. Brenna Weill Crager burst onto the scene in her rookie year. The All-Rookie Team IWLCA Community Awareness Award Shelby Iapoce member appeared in all 18 games making six starts for the Stags. The midfi elder tallied 11 points off 10 goals and an assist. She also 2016 picked up 17 groundballs and grabbed 20 draw controls this season MAAC LACROSSE WEEKLY HONORS to earn a unanimous selection to the All-Rookie Team. Offensive Player of the Week Alex Fehmel (5/2) Other notable performances in 2016 included senior midfi elder Riley Hellstein (3/7) Colleen Reynolds who grabbed a single season program record 55 draw controls during the 2016 campaign. With 3.1 per game, it tied Defensive Player of the Week Chelsey Sidaras (5/2) for third most in a single season. She started all 18 games while recording career highs in points (29), goals (22), and assists (7). The Rookie of the Week Lily Crager (3/7) senior also picked up 22 groundballs and was second on the team with 18 caused turnovers. Senior goalkeeper Chelsey Sidaras fi nished her career as one of the best goalkeepers in Fairfi eld history. Sidaras has the third most starts (54), games played (63), minutes played (3321:43), and wins (35) in Fairfi eld history. Her 388 saves rank fi fth most in program history. The netminder’s goals against averages in 2014 and 2015 stand as the top two best single season averages in Fairfi eld history.
