Today, having had more than one hundred thousand visitors in Lisbon, Silves and Oporto, the exhibit is on display in Jaen, Spain, at the San Juan de Dios Hospital. Seville and Penamacor will follow on the exhibit’s tour. Andoni Canela is a professional photographer of Spanish nationality specialized in nature photography. Winner of the Godó Photojournalism Award in 2009 for a report on the Iberian wolf, his work illustrates more than 30 articles in National Geographic magazine in different 1 / 3 LYNX COUNTRY, THE EXHIBIT PROMOTED BY IBERLINX AND ICNB, HAS ALREADY HAD MORE THAN 100 000 VISITORS editions published in Spain, Portugal, Italy and France. He also has other work published in such prestigious publications as BBC Wildlife, Geo, Newsweek, La Vanguardia or The Sunday Times. The Iberian lynx is the most threatened feline in the world; in 2009 it was estimated to have a global population of 220-225 individuals, occurring almost exclusively in Spain, with some sporadic detection in Portugal. The causes of its population decline are diverse but are related above all to the decrease in populations of wild rabbit, its preferred prey, and to loss of habitat. In effect, the species suffered an accentuated decline from the mid-nineteenth century until the end of the twentieth century. In 1988 it was still estimated to have an effective total population of 1000-1200 individuals, reduced to less than 200 individuals in 2005. Following the implementation of diverse actions of conservation, this negative tendency apparently seems to be reversing, a small growth in population having been registered since then. 2 / 3 LYNX COUNTRY, THE EXHIBIT PROMOTED BY IBERLINX AND ICNB, HAS ALREADY HAD MORE THAN 100 000 VISITORS ThetheAndalucíaPortuguesediverse IBERLINX Lynx field Country and Instituteactivities project.the exhibitAyuntamiento for for This the conservation.fits projectConservation into dethe is Valencia frameworkbeing of realized Nature del of Mombuey, the andby environmentalEDIA, Biodiversity with Águas the (ICNB), do institutionalawareness Algarve, and Juntaalsosupportcomponent includes de of the of TheInternationalhimself.obtainedProfessor inaugural He to Humberto aboutoffered Day act ofof100 commentaries BiodiversitytheRosa invitees; exhibit and theamongin and Lisbon onPresident began the them constitutedimages with wereof the a and thetour ICNB, a theSecretary partguided circumstances Engineer of theby of thecommemorations State Tito author Rosa.infor which theof the Environment, they photographs of thewere 3 / 3.
