Today, having had more than one hundred thousand visitors in Lisbon, Silves and Oporto, the exhibit is on display in Jaen, Spain, at the San Juan de Dios Hospital. Seville and Penamacor will follow on the exhibit’s tour. Andoni Canela is a professional photographer of Spanish nationality specialized in nature photography. The Iberian lynx is the most threatened feline in the world; in 2009 it was estimated to have a global population of 220-225 individuals, occurring almost exclusively in Spain, with some sporadic detection in Portugal. The causes of its population decline are diverse but are related above all to the decrease in populations of wild rabbit, its preferred prey, and to loss of habitat. In effect, the species suffered an accentuated decline from the mid-nineteenth century until the end of the twentieth century. In 1988 it was still estimated to have an effective total population of 1000-1200 individuals, reduced to less than 200 individuals in 2005.
