Locally Funded Major Projects April 2011 List of Projects Currently being undertaken: Smart City Malta US Embassy Junction Triq San Anard – Ta’ Barkat, Xaghjra Qui-Si-Sana, Sliema Valletta Pedestrianisation Smart City Malta Smart City Road Construction Smart City Malta The Concept: This project is being proposed in conjunction with the construction of the dual carriageway two lane road which from Fgura will lead to SCM. It consists of the resurfacing of a number of roads in the Cottonera Area bordering the SCM development. Resurfacing will be localised and according to need, whilst it is being envisaged that the length of roads to be resurfaced is as follows: Triq Santa Liberata, Kalkara: 850m Triq il-Missjoni Taljana & Triq il-Marina, Kalkara: 1800m Triq San Dwardu from Bieb is-Sultan to Triq Santa Liberata, Bormla: 285m Triq San Dwardu from Triq Santa Liberata to Pjazza G Gulia, Bormla: 750m Triq il-Labour and Triq il-Mina ta’ Hompesch, Zabbar: 625m Works in two phases will have a cost of : €1 million Commencement of works : July 2011 Smart City Malta Triq Santa Liberata – as existing Typical Details for Triq Santa Liberata US Embassy Junction Ta’ Qali Existing Junction Proposed Junction US Embassy Junction Ta’ Qali The Concept: This project is being proposed in conjunction the access to the US Embassy building in Ta’ Qali. The works incorporate a new storm water system, the upgrading of existing storm water culverts and also the upgrading of the existing roundabout junction. The new designs include works as follows: Roundabout Junction Construction: Euro 325, 346 Storm Water System: Euro 134, 648 Commencement: April 2011 Completion: July 2011 Triq San Anard Xghajra Ta’ Barkat STP Triq San Anard Xghajra Ta’ Barkat STP The Concept: This project is being proposed in conjunction with the construction of the new Sewage Treatment Plant at Ta’ Barkat. In fact this road will be the main access to and from the plant. The new designs will include works for 1 Km circa of road as follows: Reconstruction of Road: Euro 300, 000 circa Rubble Boundary wall construction: Euro 280,000 circa STP internal roads: Euro 300, 000 circa Overall Budget: Euro 880, 000 circa These works also include the widening of this road to a two lane as necessary. Rubble wall reconstruction is to be carried out by MRRA. Commencement Date of Works: June 2011 Completion Date of Works: October 2011 Triq San Anard Xghajra Ta’ Barkat STP Qui - Si - Sana Sliema Area for upgrading Qui - Si - Sana Sliema The Concept: This project is being proposed in view of the upgrading of the Qui Si Sana Area and for better traffic management in conjunction with the Tigne Tunnels and Development. The new designs include works for road reconstruction in various phases as follows: - Phase 1: From Triq it-Torri to Triq il-Ponta ta’ Dragut Euro 400K Length of road (phase 1): 0.50Km - Phase 2: Entrance to Tunnel Euro 600K - Phase 3: Signage in Tunnel Euro 110K Commencement date: April 2011 Completion date: August 2011 Qui - Si - Sana Sliema Valletta Pedestrianisation The Concept: The project involves the reconstruction of various street in the central area of Valletta, using paving instead of tarmac in line with heritage considerations. The pedestrian zone will be secured better for the benefit of pedestrians. Streets to being paved: Triq l-Arċisqof Triq Santa Luċija Triq id-Dejqa (Fażi 2) Partijiet minn Triq Melita Triq it-Teatru Parti minn Triq ir-Repubblika Total Cost: €2m Commencement date: May 2011 Completion date: July 2012 Valletta Pedestrianisation Strait Street Melita Street Frederick Street Completed in Phase 1 .
