Sales in the game related publications sector decreased significantly with SQUARE’s policy of publishing online, resulting in fewer book titles being published. This led to a lower gross profit margin. Although higher sales resulted in a decrease in the ratio of selling, general and administrative expenses to sales, with lower gross profits from game related publications and 700 million yen in expenses for new business operations, the company recorded an operating loss.
