THIS YEAR IN PAC-12 WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CALIFORNIA capped the season with an impressive NCAA Women’s Final Four run. It was the Bears’ !rst-ever trip and the sixth straight year a Pac-12 team has played in the national semi!nal after STANFORD made !ve consecutive trips from 2008-12…For the !rst time since the 1980-81 season, four teams were in ranked in the !nal Associated Press poll ... Pac-12 teams saw tremendous success this year, with four teams advancing to the NCAA Tournament and two more earning WNIT bids. UTAH fell by just three points in the WNIT !nals ... Pac-12 players also earned postseason recognition after an outstanding season. Stanford’s Chiney Ogwumike was a consensus All-American, while !ve others were tabbed honorable mention by the AP ... Throughout the season, !ve of the nation’s top-25 rebounders were from the Pac-12. In all, nine teams occupied a spot in at least one statistical category in the !nal NCAA stats rankings ... Ogwumike was named the Pac-12 Player of the Year and Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, while COLORADO’s Arielle Roberson was tabbed the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. Stan- ford’s Tara VanDerveer was voted the Pac-12 Coach of the Year by her league colleagues ... Three from the Pac-12 were selected in the WNBA Draft, with Cal’s Layshia Clarendon being picked in the !rst round.
