T "-J,+C'I . f'lACEMEN ON NEXT 51 WHEREAS, John Cameron Fogerty was born on M y!2~, 19_±::i.~~e.r.~ele;;r2i,B{tJfh§HJJ~TED I # MAY 1 I 2010 WHEREAS, John Fogerty became a student of music at a young age, learning both piano and guitar; and, WHEREAS, John Fogerty launched his illustrious music career in 1959 with his band, The Blue Velvets, inspired by rock 'n' roll greats such as Bo Diddley and Little Richard; and, WHEREAS, The Blue Velvets, renamed The Golliwogs, were signed to San Francisco's Fantasy Records and recorded their famous rock 'n' roll hit, Brown Eyed Girl; and, WHEREAS, John Fogerty's legendary success came with the change of his band's name to Creedence Clearwater Revival and the subsequent release of their self-titled LP; and, WHEREAS, the LP Creedence Clearwater Revival shot to the top of record sales with several Fogerty original songs and their versions of Dale Hawkins' "Suzie Q" and Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "I Put a Spell on You"; and, WHEREAS, Creedence Clearwater Revival's Sophmore LP, Bayou Country, released in 1969, marked one apogee of John Fogerty's success and the first recording with fatuous Los Angeles studio, RCA Records; and, WHEREAS, John Fogerty wrote and recorded the soulful, down-home and beautifully original song "Proud Mary," remade over 100 times by various recording artists, including the famous version by Ike and Tina Turner in 1971; and, WHEREAS, John Fogerty also wrote the oft-replicated rock classic, "Bad Moon Rising," released on Creedence Clearwater Revival's Green River in 1969; and, WHEREAS, John Fogerty's original music and Creedence Clearwater Revival's rock-filled remakes of such classics as "The Night Time is the Right Time," established the band as pioneers in non-commercial rock 'n' roll; and, WHEREAS, Creedence Clearwater Revival were headlining performers at 1969's Woodstock Music & Art Fair; and, WHEREAS, subsequent albums bestowed on music history top hits such as "Down on the Comer," "Fortunate Son," "Run Through the Jtmgle," "Who'll Stop the Rain," "Lookin' Out My Back Door," "Travelin' Band," "Up Around the Bend," "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" and countless others; and, WHEREAS, John Fogerty led a generation with lyrics that were socially-conscious and music that matched the this poignant period in history; and, WHEREAS, John Fogerty launched a successful solo career as The Blue Ridge Rangers, expanding into new areas in the art of music as he always had; and, WHEREAS, John Fogerty played all the music for the hit album, Cente~field, making him officially a one­ man band; and, WHEREAS, ever the pioneer, John Fogerty created a hit album of "swamp rock music," garnering a 1998 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album of the Year; and, WHEREAS, John Fogerty has funded grave markers for some of this country's greatest Blues musicians, which demonstrates his love for the Blues and his respect for musical geniuses from every genre; and, WHEREAS, John Fogerty for · t and won a precedent-setting lawsuit· tecting artists from false accusations of plagiarism and shielding artistic fretuom; and, WHEREAS, John Fogerty will be honored as a BMI Icon at the 58'h Annual Pop Awards in Beverly Hills on May 18, 2010; and, WHEREAS, John Fogerty is not only an award-winning rocker of legendary status, but an accomplished and revolutionary artist. His trailblazing talents have inspired many and his music continues to be the stirring soundtrack for generations of music-lovers; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that by the adoption of this resolution, the Los Angeles City Council hereby proclaims May 18, 2010 to be John Fogerty Day in the City of Los Angeles.
