MEDIA RELEASE MAYORAL COLUMN Week commencing Monday 22 September, 2014 Prepare for the pop-up of all events! It’s the school holidays again, and with all those days off from school often comes boredom... as a father I know. Have no fear the Regional Pop-up Concert Tour is almost here. Council is proudly supporting the upcoming ‘mini concert’ featuring The X Factor contestants Taylor Henderson and Jai Waetford. This free community all-ages event will be held on the Town Green, Horton Street, Port Macquarie, from 2.30pm, Friday 26 September. It’s recommended that you bring your own chairs or picnic blankets to sit on while enjoying the music and awaiting your chance to meet both the stars. For those of you who aren’t familiar with these x-X Factorians, Taylor Henderson and Jai Waetford both shot to fame after coming 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 2013 series of The X Factor - an Australian television reality music competition, based on the original UK series, to find new singing talent. Taylor has recently released his second album ‘Burnt Letters’, which the crowd will get to enjoy listening to, and Jai has released his second EP ‘Get to know you’. Alongside the main acts there will also be performances from local musicians Jake Davey and Troy Durose, and congratulations to both local artists for securing this opportunity. I will be at the event to personally welcome our visitors to the area; it would be great to see a huge crowd turn out in support of this fantastic initiative. It’s time to clear out your garage It’s happening again, this year’s annual Garage Sale Trail (Saturday, 25 October), an initiative that helps Australians to reduce waste and reuse unwanted items in a fun and creative way. The Garage Sale Trail is a national program that’s about sustainability, community, commerce and fun! The Garage Sale Trail generates local economic activity and provides residents with a fun day of buying, selling and connecting. Council’s support of the event is part of our waste education program aimed at reinforcing the goal of reducing waste and reusing items which might otherwise end up as landfill. If you have a garage full of stuff you’ve been meaning to get rid of, you should register to be a ‘seller’ at this annual event.
