Dear Islip Town Residents, The Islip Town Board and I are very pleased to present the 2021 Fall issue of the Recreation News. We hope you will enjoy this issue and take full advantage of the activities and educational opportunities available to all of our Islip residents and families as we head into the Fall season. We are happy to announce the return of the 42nd Annual Apple Festival at the Islip Grange in Sayville, taking place on Saturday, September 18th from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. After a hiatus in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 36th Annual Sharp Shooter Basketball Contest will return to the Town of Islip, giving 8,000 4th and 5th grade public and private high school students, the opportunity to not only build upon their basketball skills acquired in their physical education classes, but to also participate in a fun, competitive experience. First place winners in each grade advance to the Town-wide finals, which is truly an enjoyable event! Fall is a wonderful time of year to enjoy our beautiful golf courses and for those golf enthusiasts, we offer golf instruction for all ages. Be sure to check out one or all three of our beautiful courses located at Holbrook, Brentwood and Gull Haven (in Central Islip). As the holidays approach, be sure to mark your calendars. We are so happy to announce the return of our popular FREE Drive-in Movie Nights sponsored by Good Samaritan Hospital, a member of Catholic Health. TheSpiderwick Chronicles will be shown on Friday, October 22nd and The Christmas Chronicles will be shown on Friday, December 3rd, both on the grounds at Brookwood Hall in East Islip. We are also excited for our Senior Centers to re-open for a variety of outdoor and indoor activities. Please call your local senior center or our Senior Services Division for more information at (631)224-5340. The Town has partnered with Good Samaritan Hospital to offer FREE COVID-19 vaccinations on the grounds of the Brentwood Recreation Center. Vaccines are offered Wednesdays from 1-5 pm by appointment only. To book your appointment please call (631)376-3224. We must continue to be vigilant in our fight against COVID-19 as we head into the fall months. Please continue to wear a face covering, practice good hand hygiene, and get your COVID-19 vaccine. Town of Islip E-Alerts are the fastest way to receive important announcements and information as soon as it becomes available. Sign up by going to our website at www.islipny.gov . Please complete the Recreation and Senior Card Application and return it to Brookwood Hall. The application can be found on pages 6-7 or on our website (islipny.gov). Your card will be mailed to you. For more information, call or email us at (631) 224-5431 or [email protected] R E Anyone 12 or older must obtain a Recreation Card. A Recreation Card costs $30 and is good for two years. G Replacement cards cost $15 and will have the original card’s expiration date. I • Family rates: First member pays full price and each additional family member pays half price – only available S when purchased at the same time. T • Senior citizens 60 years or older may obtain a FREE Senior Citizen Card by using the application on pages 6-7. R For more information, call (631) 224-5431. • Non-resident cards are available for use at Ronkonkoma Beach. The cost is $50 and is valid for two years. A Purchase at Brookwood Hall. T • To obtain a Recreation Card, two current proofs of residency are required. I • Adults: Must provide a New York State driver’s license (or a New York State non-driver ID card) PLUS one of the O following – tax bill, utility bill, vehicle registration, car insurance bill, medical bill, credit card or bank statement or N notarized rent receipt. • Children 12 to 18: Parent’s driver’s license PLUS current school ID card PLUS either a recent report card or progress report. I • Children under 12: Parent’s driver’s license PLUS child’s birth certificate. N F STEP TWO: O Follow the registration instructions for the program(s) of your choice. The Program Registration Form is on page 5. Our programs have different registration deadlines and procedures. All programs listed in this brochure are accompanied by a symbol that indicates the way you must register. You will encounter the following symbols: Mail-In: You must send your registration information and payment by mail during the time period specified. NO DROP-OFFS ACCEPTED. You must send a copy of your Recreation Card. If you are registering children for camp, include a copy of their birth certificate and immunization records.Mail to: Town of Islip, 50 Irish Lane, East Islip, NY 11730. Indicate the program choice on the front of the envelope. Phone-In: You must phone-in to register at a specific time. Be prepared to give credit card information or to make full payment within a week after registration. In-Person: You must register in person at the program site. Bring your Recreation Card and payment. In- person registrations usually begin on a specific date and are ongoing until enrollment limits are met. Lottery Mail-In: This type of registration is used for popular or limited enrollment programs in order to give every resident an equal opportunity to enroll. You must send a completed registration form, your payment (MasterCard, Visa or check payable to Town of Islip) and a current copy of your child’s immunization record. A doctor’s note is required for medical conditions.
