Future Educator Scholars are aspiring teachers who receive five-year scholarships, along with mentoring and counseling, in exchange for agreeing to teach in the San Diego Unified School District. It was formed in 1987 to advance the quality of teaching and learning by developing professional stan- dards for accomplished teaching, creating a voluntary system to certify teachers who meet those standards and integrating certified teachers into educational reform efforts.
