And much like an apprehensive filmmaker on their way to his or her film premiere, be it their first or their tenth, so are we, the festival directors, filled with excitement and anticipation as we approach the start of the 6th Annual Woodstock Film Festival, ready to welcome the many who are about to gather in our “field of dreams.” While the end result is ultimately what counts—the moment when thousands or millions come to see your film in darkened theaters, or, for us, when thousands descend on our little town of Woodstock— the journey there is such an integral part of the creative process, and one that will never be forgotten. We feel privileged to work with so many amazing people on our team, be it the volunteers, the staff, the programmers, the filmmakers, the industry, the board members, the sponsors and the community at large, and we thank them all, today and every day, for their hard work and generous support. As we have worked throughout the year with the screeners and the programmers, going through I thousands of entries, thinking and rethinking the final line up, we were struck by the realization that N T so many of the films, whether political, social or personal, dealt with the challenges facing our lives, R confronting them, chronicling them, and in the end, offering a positive change. O D U If we look around us, challenges are a common thread that unite communities and nations and pull C T I them together towards a better place. And in the midst of it are the filmmakers—observing it all, O trying to make sense out of seeming chaos, adding their thoughts and ideas into this crazy mix we N call life on earth. Their films reflect our journey and inspire us to understand and push ahead. So gather around with all our stellar filmmakers and creative talents who will be here at the 2005 Woodstock Film Festival. Join in the celebration of the human spirit and the human voice—forever courageous and strong, forever capable of challenging our thinking and conquering our fears. They inspire us to dream, and hopefully, realize positive change. We invite you to experience their art and their spirit while enjoying all the beauty and culture that Woodstock, Rhinebeck, Hunter and Rosendale have to offer. See the films, concerts, panels and workshops; visit the stores, galleries, restaurants, and cafes; hike the mountains tops and dip your feet in the rivers and swimming holes; and enjoy to the fullest what the Woodstock Film Festival and the beautiful Hudson Valley Catskills have to offer. Welcome to the 6th Annual Woodstock Film Festival everyone. See you at the movies!
