Dave Brock - Busking in London 1967 - Portobello Road? a Fleeting Glimpse of a Youngish (Well, 26) Dave Brock in His Pre-Hawkwind Busking Days

11/3/2019 Hawkwind on television and film Do Not Panic - Film & Television List - DVD Trading ------ Other Stuff: Albums - Tickets - Programmes - DVD Artwork THE HAWKWIND VIDEO LOG Hawkwind haven't done that much TV or film work so there is little high quality professional footage available - especially from the early days. The band have however allowed generous access to amateur filmmakers and there is no shortage of audience filmed footage from the mid-80's on. This page attempts to bring all this together to provide something of a video chronology for one of the finest rock bands ever. Do Not Panic... Welcome to Do Not Panic... - a simple little internet resource with a single purpose - to document the film and television record of the space rock maestros Hawkwind. Apart from this page, there are only 2 other main pages to visit - The List, which provides a film and television chronology for the band and my Trading page - which is where I list the material available for sharing. The objective is to make the list as complete as possible so that it becomes a useful resource for other collectors and to increase my own collection of Hawkwind films as a byproduct! Theres a couple of pages of collected discs and other stuff I've picked up over the years, mostly for my own reference. I first saw Hawkwind back in 1975 and followed them closely through to about 1979 and then from afar until the Astoria gig Christmas 2005 which was one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. I've got most of the albums, but have missed out on many of the live performances and so started dipping in to many of the useful websites out there to see what was available. I couldn't find a single comprehensive list anywhere, so started to knock one out in a similar format to my other music websites and before I knew it the thing had taken on a life of its own. Anyway, I hope you find the information useful, and if you can add to, or correct anything you see, or can provide/trade copies of films then please get in touch. Enjoy the site! Stephen [email protected] Acknowledgements: There are already several fantastic Hawkwind websites out there full of useful information, much of which was helpful in putting this site together. Hopefully this resource will grow to complement these sites rather than duplicate their efforts. I'm not seeking to develop a detailed history of the band - these guys are already doing that - check them out: Hawkwind.com - The official band website; lots of info and pics. Starfarer's Hawkwind Pages - An encyclaepediac resource; the one fansite to rule them all. Hawkeye on Hawkwind - Another great set of resources including a year-by-year guide and more great pictures and downloads. Captain Cloud's Hawkwind List - A useful gig guide and list of audience films. 1960-1969 1967 - Dave Brock - Busking in London 1967 - Portobello Road? A fleeting glimpse of a youngish (well, 26) Dave Brock in his pre-Hawkwind busking days. This is from a 'swinging sixties' documentary and you can download the clip from the Hawkfanfare site. 1970-1979 1970 - Chalk Farm Roundhouse 12 April 1970 - Chalk Farm This snippet from a Genesis fan site: "There appear to be quite a few independent reports of footage of various bands filmed at the London Roundhouse around 1970, including 35mm film of Hawkwind from April 1970 for which the soundtrack is said to be missing." Don't hold your breath, but it might turn up one day. 14 August 1970 - Hawkwind - 1st album released Hurry On Sundown / The Reason Is? / Be Yourself / Paranoia (part 1) / Paranoia (part 2) / Seeing It As You Really Are / Mirror Of Illusion Dave Brock - John Harrison - Nik Turner - Terry Ollis - Dik Mik - Huw Lloyd Langton - Mick Slattery 1970 - Isle of Wight Festival 27-31 August 1970 - Isle of Wight Hawkwind's famous free concerts for 'canvas city' outside the main festival were not thought to have been recorded, but rumours persist of at least a few seconds of footage being in existence. 1971 - 2nd Glastonbury Festival 20-24 June 1971- Glastonbury From glastonburyfestivals.co.uk: "The Festival moved to the time of the Summer Solstice and was known as the Glastonbury Fayre. The Festival is also captured a la Woodstock by a film crew that included Nick Roeg and David Puttnam. This film was called Glastonbury Fayre. Acts included: Hawkwind, Traffic, Melanie, David Bowie, Joan Baez and Fairport Convention. Attendance: file:///C:/Users/Stephen/OneDrive/Documents/My Web Sites/tvtalkin/hawkwind/list.htm 1/14 11/3/2019 Hawkwind on television and film estimated at 12,000. Price: free." The film produced didn't include any of the Hawkwind set and I'm not aware of any out-takes circulating but there might be some sitting in a dusty archive somewhere... 8 October 1971- In Search of Space - 2nd album released You Shouldn't Do That / You Know You're Only Dreaming / Master Of The Universe / We Took the Wrong Step Years Ago / Adjust Me / Children Of The Sun Nik Turner - Dave Brock - Dave Anderson - Del Dettmar - Terry Ollis - Dik Mik 1972 - Top of the Pops 7 July 1972 - Dunstable Civic Hall Silver Machine Hawkwind weren't keen on appearing on Top of the Pops, so the BBC filmed them live Dunstable Civic instead. Classic. Around thirty minutes of film from this gig is thought to exist (Dave Brock interview in Record Collector 162 - February 1993), with EMI perhaps having even more in the vaults. A few seconds of Stacia dancing au naturale to Orgone Accumulator was featured on the 2001 Top Ten Progressive Rock Bands programme on Channel 4. This looks suspiciously like more footage from the same gig, but it's hard to be sure... Silver Machine - 1972 Orgone Accumulator - 1972 24 November 1972 - Doremi Fasol Latido - 3rd album released Brainstorm / Space Is Deep / One Change / Lord Of Light / Down Through The Night / Time We Left This World Today / The Watcher Dave Brock - Nik Turner - Lemmy - Dik Mik - Del Dettmar - Simon King 11 May 1973 - Space Ritual Alive - 4th album released Earth Calling / Born To Go / Down Through The Night / The Awakening / Lord Of Light / The Black Corridor / Space Is Deep / Electronic No. 1 / Orgone Accumulator / Upside Down / Ten Seconds Of Forever / Brainstorm / Seven By Seven / Sonic Attack / Time We Left This World Today / Master Of The Universe / Welcome To The Future Bob Calvert - Dave Brock - Lemmy - Nik Turner - Dik Mik - Del Dettmar - Simon King 1973 - Empire Pool, Wembley 27 May 1973, Empire Pool, Wembley The 2001 Top Ten of Progressive Rock show included a few seconds of film that probably originate from this gig - is the whole set on film somewhere? Who knows? If you do, let me know!! 1973 - The Final Programme Hawkwind filmed a scene for this 1973 film of the Moorcock novel. It ended up on the cutting room floor, but here's a rare still of Michael Moorcock, actor Jon Finch (as Jerry Cornelius) with Dik Mik, Robert Calvert, Nik Turner, Stacia, Simon King, Dave Brock, Del Dettmar & Lemmy). Maybe the deleted scene will turn up as an extra on DVD one day? The Final Programme is a film by Robert Fuest. file:///C:/Users/Stephen/OneDrive/Documents/My Web Sites/tvtalkin/hawkwind/list.htm 2/14 11/3/2019 Hawkwind on television and film 1973 - Swedish TV 14 or 15 September 1973 - Sweden Swedish TV filmed a festival that Hawkwind played (either Mantorps or Gothenberg). Rumour has it that all of Hawkwind's set was filmed but when the program was shown the following year, only part of Master of The Universe was featured. 6 September 1974 - Hall of the Mountain Grill- 5th album released Psychedelic Warlords / Wind Of Change / D-Rider / Web Weaver / You'd Better Believe It / Hall Of The Mountain Grill / Lost Johnny / Goat Willow / Paradox Dave Brock - Lemmy - Simon House - Nik Turner - Del Dettmar - Simon King 9 May 1975 - Warrior on the Edge of Time - 6th album released Assault And Battery / The Golden Void / The Wizard Blew His Horn / Opa-Loka / The Demented Man / Magnu / Standing At The Edge / Spiral Galaxy 28948 / Warriors / Dying Seas / Kings Of Speed Dave Brock - Nik Turner - Simon House - Lemmy - Mike Moorcock - Alan Powell - Simon King 1975 - Watchfield Festival 23 August 1975 - Watchfield, UK Now I probably wouldn't even bother to mention this if it wasn't for the fact 1970's film is so thin on the ground, but a recent BBC4 documentary on the history of Travellers featured a couple of seconds of Hawkwind playing at the Watchfield Festival. You can download the clip from the Hawkfanfare site. 27 August 1976 - Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music - 7th album released Reefer Madness / Steppenwolf / City Of Lagoons / The Aubergine That Ate Rangoon / Kerb Crawler / Kadu Flyer / Chronoglide Skyway Dave Brock - Nik Turner - Simon King - Simon House - Alan Powell - Paul Rudolph - Bob Calvert 17 June 1977 - Quark, Strangeness And Charm - 8th album released Spirit Of The Age / Damnation Alley / Fable Of A Failed Race / Quark Strangeness And Charm / Hassan I Sahba / The Forge Of Vulcan / Days Of The Underground / Iron Dream Robert Calvert - Dave Brock - Simon House - Adrian Shaw - Simon King 1977 - The Marc Bolan Show 14 September 1977 - Quark, Strangeness & Charm The band appeared as a 4-piece (minus Dave Brock) to mime along to Quark, Strangeness & Charm. Dave Brock apparently didn't turn up because Marc had had him thrown out of a party years before because Dave had shown up his guitar playing skills.
