Paul Spoljaric

Paul Spoljaric Paul is that rare Canadian boy, born in Kelowna, B.C., who gets to pitch for the “home team” Toronto Blue Jays, if a team 2,000 miles away can be the home team. He played for the Jays in 1994, 1996-97 and 1999. Paul was traded to the Seattle Mariners mid-season in 1997 with Mike Timlin for Jose Cruz. From Seattle, he was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies for Mark Leiter after the 1998 seasons. The Phillies in turn traded him back to his initial starting point, the Blue Jays, for Robert Person in May of 1999. After the 1999 season, Paul was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals with Pat Hentgen for three players but the Cardinals released Paul after spring training 2000. He then signed and played for the Kansas City Royals for the 2000 season, his last in the majors before retiring. Paul played for Canada In the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens where the team finished just out of the medals in 4th place. In his 6-year major-league career, Spoljaric compiled a career 8-17 record with 278 stikeouts, 12 saves, and a 5.52 ERA in 278 innings. Paul has spent many seasons pitching in the Intercounty Baseball League in Ontario. With the Toronto Maple Leafs of that league, Paul’s record was an astounding 52-3 over 5 seasons. He then signed on with the Barrie Baycats and went 16-3 over two seasons proving that even in his late 30’s, he could still throw the ball. Sports Celebrity Marketing S.C.M.
