November 29, 2003 Collecting Cambrian in the House Range, near Delta, UT This trip started out slow, but ended up being quite a good day. We met up with Jake and Nick Skabelund, some of our fossil collecting friends, out there. We wanted to collect some Modocia typicalis, but just didn't get into the "good" stuff. We found a few, but weren't very happy. So, we went and collected a few Elrathia kingii at a nearby location. As usual, the weather was nearly perfect while collecting trilobites near Delta in November. Myself, Nick Skabelund, and Jake Skabelund collecting Modocia typicalis in the Marjum Formation. Nick and Jake are showing their good sides. In the afternoon we moved over to a locality where we could collect Elrathia kingii. We enjoy this site because the trilobites tend to be chocolate colored. A couple perfect, but loose,Elrathia kingii. A pretty good pile of Elrathia kingii trilobites. As you can see the rock is much better looking than the stuff that is collected just a few miles away in the Wheeler Amphitheater. A small Asaphiscus wheeleri. Another decent Elrathia kingiistill in the matrix. Unfortunately about half of theElrathia kingii that we find are "upside-down" we still collect them but we have to "pop" them out. The sun setting over Marjum Pass. A closer look. There was actually quite a bit of snow out there. We collected over there a couple weeks previous to this trip. I suspect that there is a foot of snow at that spot now. .
