Please do not arrive early as time is needed to thoroughly clean the cottage and carry out any required maintenance. You will find the key to your cottage in a key safe which can be found to the right of the patio door. The key safe code is 9101. BBQ There is a charcoal BBQ which lives in the log shed in the garden. Please feel free to use it but please put it away again when you’ve finished so it doesn’t get wet. Please make sure it is clean it after use. Candles A few candles can be found in the box below the sink in case of emergencies. Cleaning We are lucky to live in such a wonderful Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and materials we are trying to do everything we can to keep it this way. We are therefore committed to trying to use cleaning materials that do not harm the environment. The orange power, washroom cleaner, toilet cleaner, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets and hand soap provided all meet stringent environmental criteria set by the South Hams Green Tourism Business Scheme. Please do use them as required, and then leave them for the next guests. Damage deposit Your damage deposit is refundable providing there is no damage to fixtures, fittings or inventory, and no excessive cleaning required. Damages Please report any damage or breakages as soon as possible. This allows us to buy replacements or organise repairs before the next visitors arrive. Departure Please leave by 10am on the day of your departure. This allows us time to clean and prepare properly for the next guests. We would be very grateful if you could make sure you leave the cottage clean and tidy, particularly making sure that you have cleaned the fire grate & BBQ if you have used them and it would be very helpful if you could strip the beds. Please lock the door and return the key to the key safe. Dishwasher You should have enough Ecover tablets for the dishwasher, which are kept under the sink. Please do not use the ‘eco’ setting as it simply is not hot enough to clean the dishes! Dogs Your dog is very welcome at an extra cost but please remember the following: - Please make sure your dog does not go in the bedrooms or on the furniture AT ANY TIME. - Please don’t leave your dog unattended in the cottage AT ANY TIME. - Please remove any dog mess from the lawn daily – use a poo bag and place in the outdoor general waste bin. - Please keep your dog on a lead when on the farm as we have cows, chickens and www.carswellcottages.com 01752 830020 [email protected] 3 pheasants! - Please be aware that we are in a rural area surrounded by farmland, don’t let your dog chase sheep or cattle. Fuse box The main fuse box can be found in the kitchen cupboard where the fridge is. Hampers A variety of hampers are available to be placed in your cottage ready for your arrival – please click here to view the details on our website. Please contact us to order at least 10 days prior to arrival. Heating We have a biomass boiler which provides the heating and hot water for Shepherds Cottage. The heating is set on the dial on the upstairs landing. It is usually set to about 21°C during the colder months, but do feel free to change the temperature using the up and down arrows as required. Also each individual radiator has a temperature control knob on it and so can be turned up or down individually as required. Hot water The hot water is provided by a biomass boiler. The boiler will fill the large hot water storage tank whenever required and so you should have a constant supply of hot water at all times. In case of EMERGENCY ONLY there is an immersion heater and the switch is on the wall in the downstairs toilet above the washing machine. Inventory The cottage is very well equipped, please click here to see the inventory. Internet access There is free internet access at the Cottage. Connect to the carswellcottages network and use the password carswellcottages. Please note that Wi Fi internet access is available free of charge to guests on the condition that it is not used to view or download from sites that have illegal content or images. Keys One set of keys will be in the key safe when you arrive, with a spare set on the kitchen table. Please do ensure you return both sets of keys to their original location when you leave. Lightbulbs A few spare lightbulbs can be found in the box below the kitchen sink. Linen Your beds will be made up ready for your arrival, and we will leave each guest a bath sheet and a hand towel. Logs During the winter/spring/autumn there will be some logs in the garden shed. There is also an axe in the shed next to the logs which you are welcome to use to split the larger logs to make kindling. Outdoor There is a picnic table for guests to use. furniture Parking Please park in the designated space in the lane. Additional cars can park behind, but please park close to the hedge to allow enough room for the tractors to get by. Please DO NOT park in the garage. www.carswellcottages.com 01752 830020 [email protected] 4 Play area & Please do enjoy our play area and wildflower meadow – just access through the wildflower gate. The tractor is a rescued Allis Charmers and we have therefore called her meadow Alice! We want everyone to enjoy this magical area, so please do make sure that children are supervised at all times and play safely. Please also be aware that, whilst we have taken all precautions to make this area safe, you use it at your own risk. Other guests have access to the play area too, so please wipe down any equipment after you use it and before you leave the area and observe social distancing measures. You are very welcome to walk your dogs in the meadow but please be considerate of other guests, especially children, and make sure your dog is always under control. Please DO NOT allow your dog to foul in the meadow and, if an accident does happen, please make sure that you clear up thoroughly. Rubbish & The Council have a very good waste collection system so we ask that you read the recycling instructions found in your cottage carefully. Thank you in advance for your help! Inside your cottage, you will find a bin for general waste, a separate bin for all your recycling and a food waste caddy. Please refer to the leaflet provided in your cottage to find out exactly which items can be recycled. The recycling will be collected every week, and the GREY wheelie bin for general waste will be collected every other week. Collection day is TUESDAY
