Keller, Ph.D I\t the present time the Research Division is conducting a similar MEMBER project for those inmates receiving parole authorization from the Hanover, Ind. Indiana Refol11latory. This series of studies will b.e completed in the near future. Similar studies are planned for those inmates Miss Therese·Maria Razzini authorized for parole from the Indiana Youth Center and the Indiana MEMBER I-Iomen's Prison. There 'd(:re tV/enty-fi ve (25) inmates with a 1 ife sentence authori zed for par'ole from the Indiana State Prison from January, 1975, through October, 1975. All tl</enty-five (25) inmates served as subjects in this study. The data for the study was obtained from the "minutes" of the Indiana Parole Board and from the Central Office packets of the subjects. The follol'/ing infonllation ViaS collected; (1) the inmate's file number, (2) the inmate's month and year of admission into the Indiana Depart- 'l11ent of Correction, (3) the month and year the inmate \'las authorized for parole, (4) the inmate's ethnic group, and (5) the most serious commiting offehse of the inmate. This infomation I</as analyzed to determine; (1) the average length of institutional time served in the Indiana Department of Correction by inmates authorized for parole from the Indiana State Prison who had a Life sentence, (2) the range of time served by all subjects in this study, (3) the ethnic breakdown of the subjects in this study, (4) the average (mean) 'length of time served by the \-Ihite inmates in this study, (5) the range of time served by the \oJhite inmates in this study, (6) the average (mean) length of time served by the Glack inmates in this study, and (7) the range of time served by the Black inmates in this study. In this study (Life sentence) the following results were obtained: Average Length of Time Served by All Subjects 19 years, 8.8 months (standal"d deviation of 8 years, 2.99 months) Range of Time Served ~ Subjects Shortest - 1 year and 2 month:; Longest - 3~;" yeats and no ii'0nths \'ihite = 68:'; 131 ack -,; 32% ~.yera9r. There v/ere eight (8) inmates \'IHh a singular sentence of 2-10 years authorized for parole from the Indiana State Prison from January, 1975, through October, 1975. All eight inmates served as subjects in this study. The data for the study \'las obtained from the "minutes" of the Indiana Parole Board and from the Central Office packets of the SUbjects. The following information was collected; (1) the inmate's file nwnber, (2) the inmate's month and year of admi ssion into the Indi ana Department of Correction, (3) the month and year the inmate was authorized for parole, (4) the inmate's ethnic group, and (5) the most serious commiting offense of the inmate. This information vias analyzed to detennine; (1) the average length of institutional time served in the Indiana Department of Correction by inmates authorized for parole from the Indiama State Prison \'/ho had a sentence length of 2-10 years, (2) thl:! range of time served by all subjects in this study, (3) the ethnic breakdown of the subjects in this study, (4) the aver­ age (mean) length of time served by the White inmates in this studys (5) the range of time served by the White inmates in this study, (6) the average (mean) length of time served by the Black inmates in this study, and (7) the range of time served by the Black inmates in this study.
