Byrd Hall in honor of the senator’s late wife, is a 37,000 gross square foot, two-story building which houses specialized nursing classrooms, labs, office space, conference rooms, stu- dent study center, and general pur- pose classrooms. Erma Ora Byrd Hall provides the Department of Nursing Education with a much-needed facil- ity. The nursing program spent the past decade in the Butcher Center. The facility was built with federal funding obtained by Senator Byrd. It is the third state-of-the-art building on the Shepherd campus built with funding engineered by Senator Byrd. The architect for the $10 million project was Design Collective, Inc., of Baltimore, Maryland.
