NAVSTA Newport Hosts Sea Cadet Leadership Academy and Emergency Medicine Seminar NEWPORT, R.I. — More than 120 U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC) members from the New England region graduated, January 1, 2020, at Naval Station (NAVSTA) Newport from Petty Officer Leadership Academy (POLA) and Emergency Medicine Seminar (EMS). NAVSTA Newport was the host during both weeklong NSCC advanced trainings that started on December 26, 2019. NSCC is sponsored by the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Navy League. Officer Training Command Newport (OTCN), the Senior Enlisted Academy (SEA), and NAVSTA Newport provided a combination of classrooms and instructors to supplement NSCC resources. POLA, conducted for the 18th year at NAVSTA Newport, consisted of 44 male cadets and 17 female cadets who had nearly 40 hours of classroom instruction on leadership, management, and counselling that is a prerequisite for a cadet’s advancement.
