PRACTICE AREA The Practice serves Pontypridd town, Treforest, Tonteg, Church Village, Llantwit Fardre, Efail Isaf, Rhydyfelin, Hawthorn, Upper Boat, Cilfynydd, Glyncoch and Ynysybwl. PRACTICE PREMISES Morgan Street, Pontypridd Ashgrove is a purpose-built Practice with two reception areas, twenty four clinical rooms made up of consulting rooms, treatment rooms, a wound dressing room and an operating theatre. CAR PARKING There are two large public car parks within sight of the Practice. Access for disabled persons arriving by car is available to the rear of the premises for drop and collection only. This is a no parking area that must be kept clear to ensure doctors are not obstructed in attending emergency situations. Traffic wardens regularly patrol this area. NO SMOKING POLICY In the interest of health the Practice operates a NO SMOKING policy on our premises. Registrars are fully medically qualified and many have a great deal of hospital experience, their training in the Practice being centred on the role of the general practitioner. They are available for consultations in exactly the same way as the other doctors in the Practice. UNDERGRADUATE TEACHING Ashgrove is also a teaching practice for undergraduates pursuing a medical career. Research Co-ordinator Sharon Moulds Accredited Phlebotomist (RGH). City & Guilds (NVQ3) in Primary Care. Accredited First Aider Duties include taking bloods, urine testing, BP recording, ECG and spirometry recording. All results and readings are interpreted by the clinician requesting the test. Diabetic foot checks and removal of stitches/sutures, simple dressings. Katherine Pritchard (Trainee HCP) Katherine is an accredited phlebotomist (RGH) and is responsible for taking blood at the clinicians’ request. Katherine is currently undertaking training to become an accredited Health Care Practitioner. COMMUNITY STAFF The following are employed by the Cwm Taf Trust and are attached to the Practice. DISTRICT NURSES A team of staff nurses and a nursing auxiliary led by Nursing Sister Jackie Evans provide nursing support at home. HEALTH VISITORS A team of three, Karen Harvey, Bethan John and Cerys Lear, provide child health care, health promotion and child protection via home/school visits and clinics at the Practice to the under five year olds. MIDWIVES A team of midwives support the doctors in providing antenatal care. PRACTICE MANAGEMENT PRACTICE BUSINESS MANAGER Moira Moore is responsible for implementing Practice policy, the performance of Practice Staff and the efficient deployment of all Practice Resources. OPERATIONAL MANAGER Sarah Powell is responsible for the efficient day-to-day management of operational support. RECEPTION STAFF Reception staff will treat you in a friendly, courteous manner and are here to help you. ADMINISTRATION STAFF A small team of secretarial and clerical staff provide administrative support for the Practice, thereby releasing reception staff and clinical personnel to devote their time to patients. DATA BARRING SERVICE All staff at the Practice have been vetted by the DBS (Data Barring Service). MEDICAL ADVICE NHS Direct is a free medical telephone advice service. It is available 24 hours a day every day of the year and should be used whenever you have a concern about your health or a health-related matter but are unsure what action to take. TELEPHONE ADVICE Often problems can be dealt with by telephone. The receptionist may take your telephone number and ask an appropriately qualified person to ring you back. For conditions such as backache, colds, laryngitis, hay fever, diarrhoea/gastroenteritis, cystitis, thrush, period pains, constipation, threadworms, accidents/trauma it may be considered appropriate to offer you a telephone consultation. Should the health professional subsequently feel it necessary for you to be seen at the Practice an appointment will be offered to you. DISABLED Wheelchair access to the Practice is via the rear patient entrance. As the Practice building consists of two floors, disabled/wheelchair patients are asked to advise reception when booking an appointment to ensure consultations are arranged to take place on the ground floor which has been designed to accommodate wheelchair access to all areas. Please note motorised scooters are not allowed within the Practice – please advise reception if you require use of the Practice wheelchair. DEAF/HARD OF HEARING PATIENTS Our patient call-in system will speak and display your name when you are called. There is a portable loop induction facility available for your use upon request. Patients with hearing impairment may be interested in registering with My Health Online. This facility allows online prescription requesting and some appointment booking. Please make our reception staff aware of your condition if you require any further assistance. PATIENTS WITH IMPAIRED VISION Our patient call-in system will speak and display your name when you are called. Patients with impaired vision may be interested in registering with My Health Online.
