The Parishes of Culmington Onibury, Bromfield and Stanton Lacy SEPTEMBER 2016 Festival of Churches- http://www.festivalofchurches.co.uk/ Message from the Bishop of Shrewsbury Buildings are not quiet. They speak volumes. The church buildings of Shropshire tell of faith in Jesus Christ that has shaped lives and communities across this county. Offering a wonderful opportunity for you to discover these stories, the Festival of Churches will open up many historical and spiritual treasures. I hope you have an enjoyable time exploring these sacred spaces and listening to the different voices, both past and present, on the way. As you visit these holy sites, lovingly cared for by present Salopians, I pray that you will find God’s divine welcome and hear his still small voice for you today. Onibury Honeysuckle Club On August 2nd club members and friends set off on a Mystery Tour. Despite lots of pressure and suggestions for the destination - the Coach driver and Rose managed to get there and keep it a Mystery! We went via the scenic route to Webbs of Wychbold and enjoyed two hours there. We had time to explore a very large retail area, garden centre and restaurant. There seemed to be something for everyone - some members suggested that we try out the hot tub!! The weather was kind to us and I believe everyone enjoyed the Mystery Tour. Culmington Village Hall Duck Race and Charity Evening. Culmington Village Hall Committee would like to thank everyone for their support and contribution to the Annual Fun Day and Duck Race day held on Saturday 23rd July 2016 at Culmington Village Hall, raising monies for the village hall funds. It certainly was a great day and the afternoon was certainly buzzing with a great atmosphere. A total of £878 was raised from the duck race sales where this was donated between the Village Hall and All Saints Church Culmington which was approximately £439.00 each. During the afternoon we also had a raffle raising £123 for Ludlow Defibrillator. We were extremely lucky with the weather on the day, and everyone enjoyed sampling a glass of Pimms, and local beer from the Sun Inn at Corfton and enjoying the sunshine. This year the event was supported by Craven Arms Fire Brigade, West Mercia Police and an afternoon animal show with exotic animals provided by “Simon Airey” the Animal Man who enjoys coming back each year to see everyone. 5 Winners of the Duck Race this year were; 1st Alice Payne from Aston on Clun, 2nd J. Hardwick from Culmington, 3rd Z Boden from New Zealand, 4th, Bill Cawley, 5th Karen Lakey c/o Anne Luntz. It was lovely to see so many people and young children gathering the ducks at the end and having a paddle. Thank you goes to everyone for the organisation of the duck race from selling ducks which were sold jointly by members from the Village Hall committee and from "All Saints Church, Culmington. And thank you to Robin Edwards for use of his field for the duck race and parking. In the evening a further charity event was hosted with live music and disco, pig roast and bar raising funds for Multiple Sclerosis and Alzheimer’s Association. This was another great success with £582.00 raised for charity. Next year the Duck Race is provisionally booked for Saturday 22nd July 2016. Thank you to all again.
