Mr Clarke to move— 1. That this House notes that: (a) on Saturday 2 June 2018 the Australian Telangana Forum hosted a function at the Community Centre Greystanes to celebrate Telangana Formation Day marking the fourth anniversary of Telangana being declared the 29th State of India on 2 June 2014, (b) those who attended included: (i) Mr Prakash Goud, Member of the Legislative Assembly, State of Telangana, (ii) Mr Anurag Sharma, Chief Advisor to the Home Ministry, State of Telangana, (iii) Mr Ashok Malish, President, Australian Telangana Forum, (iv) Dr Yadu Singh, President, Federation of Indian Associations of New South Wales, (v) Ms Julie Owens MP, Federal Member for Parramatta, (vi) Councillor Lisa Lake, Cumberland Council representing Ms Michelle Rowland MP, Federal Member for Greenway, (vii) the Honourable Scott Farlow MLC, Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier, Leader of the House in the Legislative Council, (viii) the Honourable David Clarke MLC, Parliamentary Secretary of Justice, (ix) Ms Jodi McKay MP, Shadow Minister for Transport, Road, Maritime and Freight, (x) Dr Hugh McDermott MP, Member for Prospect, (xi) Ms Julia Finn MP, Member for Granville, (xii) Mrs Aruna Chandrala representing the Global Women’s Network (New South Wales), (xiii) several hundred members and friends of the Telangana-Australian community, and (c) the Australian Telangana Forum was founded in 2006 as a non-profit organisation to support and represent the Telangana community in New South Wales and to showcase the cultural heritage of Telangana and India. 2. That this House: (a) commends the Australian Telangana Forum and its Executive and Advisory Committee for their successful hosting of the celebration of Telangana Formation Day held in Greystanes on Saturday 2 June 2018, (b) notes that the Executive and Advisory Committee comprises: (i) President Ashok Malish, (ii) General Secretary Pradeep Seri, (iii) Treasurer Vasu Tootukur, (iv) Vice Presidents Kavitha Reddy, Pradeep Thedla and Goverdhan Muddam, (v) Joint Secretaries Kavya Gummadavalli and Kishore Panthula, (vi) Joint Treasurer Mithun Loka, (vii) Public Officer Raja Sankepalli, (viii) Cultural Secretaries Harika Mannem and Harini Surya, (ix) Executive members Latha Kadaparthi, Swetha Yama and Sunitha Gutti, (x) official media representatives Ram Gummadavalli, Sunil Kalluri, David Raj, Prasanth Kadaparthi and Sumesh Surya, (xi) advisers Hemanth Gangu, Narashima Reddy, Indrasena Reddy, Chandrasekhar Reddy, Manaohar Narla, Pramod Elete, Sundeep Mungala and Vinod Elete, and (c) extends best wishes to the Telangana-Australian community on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of Telangana becoming the 29th State of India and commends the community for its ongoing contribution to Australia and the State of New South Wales. That this House notes that the road transport industry consistently tops the list of Australia’s most dangerous industry, with: (a) 330 people are killed in incidents involving heavy vehicles and 5,350 people injured at the rate of 31 per day, (b) academic, judicial, government and coronial studies citing economic factors, principally the power imbalance between transport purchasers, or clients, and transport suppliers, which results in unsafe remuneration systems, and perverse incentives for heavy vehicle operators; and (c) successive New South Wales Governments having responded to the heavy vehicle industry safety crisis by implementing, with bi-partisan support, supply chain regulatory models based on the “Chain of Responsibility” in road transport and workplace health and safety laws. 2. That this House notes that: (a) Coles is one of Australia’s two biggest retailers, responsible for the purchase of tens of thousands of trucking movements each year, (b) the Transport Workers Union of Australia is a registered organisation of employees, as well as one of Australia’s largest small business organisations, and (c) on 23 May 2018 Coles and the Transport Workers’ Union of Australia signed a memorandum of understanding establishing five principles to conclude a “Coles - TWU Supply Chain Safety and Fairness Charter” and a memorandum of understanding to ensure on demand workers are not disadvantaged in terms of safety, fairness and engagement as the on-demand economy evolves. 3. That this House express its support for each statement of principles and the finalisation of a Supply Chain Safety and Fairness Charter and that this House congratulates the Transport Workers’ Union and Coles for working together to improve the lives of workers. (Notice given 5 June 2018—expires Notice Paper No. 178) 2276. Mr Shoebridge to move— 1. That this House notes: (a) Don Craigie and Allan Clarke have been indefatigable in their work trying to achieve justice in the unsolved murder case of Mark Haines, an Aboriginal teenager who was found dead on the train tracks south of Tamworth 30 years ago, (b) Don Craigie is Mark’s uncle and one of his last remaining relatives who has spent the last 30 years demanding answers from the police, from politicians and from the local community, and (c) Allan Clarke’s diligent reporting over the last five years has given a public voice to the family, uncovered witnesses and evidence that the original police investigation failed to investigate and highlighted the injustices that too many First Nations people face when it comes to unsolved murders. 2. That this House congratulates Don Craigie's tireless commitment and Allan Clarke’s consistent reporting for playing a significant role in Mark's case being re-opened by the NSW Police State Crime Command and moving his family a step closer to justice. 3. That this House commits to a criminal justice system that is open and fair to all regardless of their race, wealth, religion or status. (Notice given 5 June 2018—expires Notice Paper No. 178) 2277.
