Nunavut Arctic College Course Offerings January 2020 Nunavut Arctic College invites you to consider its course offerings for January 2020! NAC is happy to announce the following programs for new students in January 2020: 1) Getting Ready for Employment and Training The G.R.E.A.T program is a 14-week training program designed to prepare students looking to enter the workplace. It focusses on essential skills, computers, personal portfolio development and work readiness. An additional 2-week mentored work experience is also a part of this program. This class will: Strengthen different skills that will help you in the workplace Consider and develop your own personal and career goals Update your resume, cover letter and practice interview skills Learn more about employment opportunities in Nunavut 2) Pre-apprentice for the following trade programs in Rankin Inlet: Electrician Plummer Carpentry Oil Heat Systems Technician Housing Maintainer The pre-apprentice programs are of be offered through the Rankin Inlet Trade School. Information on these programs can be found at: https://arcticcollege.com/pre-apprenticeship Please note, the Rankin Inlet campus has a limited amount of student accommodation for all its course offerings, therefore, student housing cannot be guaranteed. *** Financial support for the G.R.E.A.T program and the pre-trades program is available through the ALTS program (Adult Learning and Training Supports) with the Department of Family Services.*** 3) Piqqusilirivvik in Clyde River. The deadline for next year’s intake is January 31, 2020. Courses that will be offered in the Winter and Spring session include: Inuit History Survival Skills Shelter Building 1 Skin Preparation Sewing Tool Making Land travel Fishing Independent Research Hunting Skills Visiting Elder Speakers Camping during Winter & Spring Inuit Traditional Laws. Information on these program, or to apply, contact Piqqusiliriviik at (867) 924 – 6044 or go to www.piqqusilirivvik.ca. There are accommodations available for single students, or students with a partner. The accommodations at Piqqusilirivvik is not for families. Piqqusilirivvik provides its own financial support for students enrolled in its program. Please contact them directly for further information. If you are interested in this program, contact your local Community Learning Center, visit the Nunavut Arctic College website, or talk with your Community Career Development Coordinator. 4) Opportunities at the Clyde River and Arctic Bay Community Learning Centers Currently, there is an opportunity to run an Adult Basic Education, or College Foundation Program at the Clyde River or Arctic Bay Community Learning Centers starting in January 2020. If there was interest from 3 or more people in either of those specific communities to enroll in a program, then such programs could be delivered. If you live in Clyde River or Arctic Bay and are interested in exploring learning such as this, please visit your local Adult Educator to discuss options. Adult Basic Education allows students to take high school equivalent courses, and programs are designed to match the skills and learning of each student. College Foundation is designed for students who would like to develop their skills and have interest in applying to different post-secondary programs in the future.
