KINNEY ATLANTIC NEWS STAFF WRITER or the past month, members of Beagles Of New England States (BONES) have been very busy. FThe non-profit rescue group has been hard at work, trying to save the lives of several beagles found living in unsafe conditions earlier this month in Maine. Trisha Craig, foster director and public relations/ Cyan marketing director for the volunteer group, said the group has been working to improve the health of the wayward animals before they can find them new Magenta homes. Undoubtedly you’ve heard the story of several dogs recovered in Limington, Maine and the conditions they were living in. You probably know the story of the man Yellow who was living there and his death, which lead to their discovery. When the 19 beagles and one hound mix were dis- Black covered in the dilapidated house on Sokokis Ave. they were living in squalor. The house was without running water and the pups were living amongst heaps of gar- bage, urine and excrement, both canine and human. Two dead dogs were also in the house. Rescue workers and firefighters wore protective clothing and breathing apparatus while removing the animals from the home. Because the local animal control officer did not have a facility large enough to house the animals, one of Limington’s own firefighters temporarily housed many of the dogs in his garage.
