Our Caribbean Neighbours include countries located in and around the Caribbean Sea. They can be divided up into three main groups. These include: The Greater Antilles The Commonwealth of the Bahamas. The Lesser Antilles. The Lesser Antilles is further divided into Leeward and Windward Islands. Leeward Islands are not affected by north east trade winds. Windward Islands are affected by north east trade winds. It should be noted that within the Lesser Antilles territory, there are countries that make up the Netherland Antilles. These are the Dutch Leeward Islands e.g. St Maarten and the Dutch Windward Islands (Aruba and Curacao). The Greater Antilles. The Greater Antilles consists of the larger islands. The Bahamas The Bahamas consists of over 3000 individual islands and 700 coves. A cove is a small indentation or recess in the shoreline of a sea, lake, or river.
