In 2007 they lost everything to the lood. They had to gut and redo their entire house and rebuild their farm including 120 head of cattle that all drowned. Following the lood, they put up a nativity scene that had been stored in their attic and was spared from the high water. The nativity was a symbol to the community that life would go on. At a time when many in the community had decided they would not celebrate the holiday, Pete said they would have Christmas come hell or high water — and they did.
