This booklet is prepared for the Bible Memory Program of Trinity Bible Church and Hillcrest Chapel in Portland, Oregon. The First Epistle Memory groups will meet weekly to recite each of Peter assignment. The booklet contains selected Bible verses arranged in 15 assignments with seven or eight verses to be memorized each week. The 1 Peter 1 - 5 assignment number and Bible reference should be memorized and recited with each assignment. Those who prefer shorter assignments may memorize the three verses in each assignment which are marked with the symbol: ~, in this New American Standard Version booklet. There is a companion booklet for small children containing one verse per week. THE GRASS WITHERS, AND THE FLOWER FALLS OFF, Assignment 5 8 1 Peter 2:4-10 and, “A STONE OF STUMBLING 4 AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE”; ~ And coming to Him as to a living stone for they stumble because which has been rejected by men, they are disobedient to the word, but is choice and precious and to this doom in the sight of God, they were also appointed. 5 9 ~ you also, as living stones, But you are A CHOSEN RACE, are being built up as a spiritual house A royal PRIESTHOOD, for a holy priesthood, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE to offer up spiritual sacrifices FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. so that you may proclaim 6 the excellencies of Him c~ For this is contained in Scripture: who has called you out of darkness “BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION into His marvelous light; A CHOICE STONE, 10 A PRECIOUS CORNER stone, for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, AND HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM but now you are WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.” THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, 7 This precious value, then, is for you but now who believe; but for those who you have RECEIVED MERCY. disbelieve, “THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE VERY CORNER stone,” Assignment 6 15 For such is the will of God 1 Peter 2:11-17 that by doing right you may silence 11 the ignorance of foolish men. c~ Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers 16 Act as free men, to abstain from fleshly lusts and do not use your freedom which wage war against the soul. as a covering for evil, 12 but use it as bondslaves of God. ~ Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, 17 Honor all people, so that in the thing love the brotherhood, in which they slander you as evildoers, fear God, they may because of your good deeds, honor the king. as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation. 13 ~ Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, 14 or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right. Assignment 7 21 For you have been called 1 Peter 2:18-25 for this purpose, 18 since Christ also suffered for you, Servants, be submissive leaving you an example to your masters with all respect, for you to follow in His steps, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also 22 WHO COMMITTED NO SIN, to those who are unreasonable. NOR WAS ANY DECEIT 19 For this finds favor, if for the sake FOUND IN HIS MOUTH; of conscience toward God 23 a person bears up under sorrows ~ and while being reviled, when suffering unjustly. He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, 20 For what credit is there if, but kept entrusting Himself when you sin to Him who judges righteously; and are harshly treated, 24 you endure it with patience? c~ and He Himself bore our sins But if when you do what is right in His body on the cross, so that and suffer for it we might die to sin you patiently endure it, and live to righteousness; this finds favor with God. for by His wounds you were healed. 25 ~ For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls. Assignment 8 5 For in this way in former times Chapter 3 the holy women also, 1 Peter 3:1-7 who hoped in God, 1 used to adorn themselves, In the same way, you wives, being submissive be submissive to your own husbands to their own husbands; so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, 6 just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, they may be won without a word calling him lord, by the behavior of their wives, and you have become her children 2 if you do what is right as they observe your chaste without being frightened by any fear. and respectful behavior. 7 3 ~ You husbands in the same way, ~ Your adornment must not be live with your wives merely external–braiding the hair, in an understanding way, and wearing gold jewelry, as with someone weaker, or putting on dresses; since she is a woman; 4 and show her honor as a fellow heir c~ but let it be the hidden person of the grace of life, of the heart, so that your prayers with the imperishable quality will not be hindered.
