Below are the volunteer opportunities available that you might be interested in: Mannasem Center: Homeless People Support Center (June 5th (Tues), 11:30am~1:00pm) Mannasem offers a temporary home for those who are struggling through various difficulties in life. As volunteers, we will help them by preparing lunch and distrib- uting food for the homeless. Yongsan Center for the Disabled (June 8th (Fri), 2:00pm ~ 4:00pm) This activity involves simple cooking activity (like pizza, salad, sandwiches, etc.) with our friends in the center. This activity help them develop their life skills and also a good way for them to socialize and learn about different foods. Volunteers do not need to eat the food they make. Yongsan Senior Welfare Center (June 19th (Tues), 1:00pm ~ 2:00pm) Spend time with halmeonis and harabeojis (Korean grandmas and grandpas) by having an English conversation with them as a part of their English class. This class is one of the programs of Senior Welfare Center to help prevent Alzheimer's Disease. You do not need to be a native English speaker to join this activity, and it is a great chance for cultural exchange as well. On Friday, June 8th, 10:00am-12:00pm, the Itaewon Global Village Center will hold a class “European flower arrangement.” In this class we’ll learn about the elegant summer table design using seasonal flowers. The class will be held by a master florist from Hungary, Reka Patrick. If you want to learn about the colours, textures and forms used in the modern European floral design, do not hesitate to register! You can sign up in person or by email only. The fee would be 25,000 won (Participants need to bring secateurs & scissors). The venue of this event will be at Itaewon Global Village Center. On Friday, June 15th, from 10:00am to 12:00pm, Itaewon Global Village Center will hold “Traditional Market Walking Tour.” Participants will get fruitful information and historical backgrounds about streets and markets. This walking tour takes visitors around the traditional markets of the Dongdaemun District, starting with the Seoul Yangnyeongsi Herb Medicine Museum, then the Gyeongdong Market and the Seoul Yangn- yeong Market, one of the most famous oriental medicine markets in Korea. The tour route is as described below: Jegidong Station – Seonnongdan -> Seoul Yangn- yeongsi Herb Medicine Museum -> Seoul Yangn- yeong Market -> Gyeongdong Market The venue of the tour is Jegi-dong station (line 1). Email: [email protected] On Friday, June 15th, 2:00pm-4:00pm, the Itaewon Global Village Center will hold a workshop “Korea job interview and business manner” This workshop aims to analyze distinctive work culture in Korea and to provide practical guidelines to improve student’s knowledge on Korean work culture and job interview skills. ** The lecture will be conducted in English, however participants need basic Korean speaking skills ** Course overview: Job interview tips Most common job interview questions. Job Interview check list Mock up and feedback Course objectives: By end of this course, participants will: Demonstrate knowledge and awareness about work culture in Korea. Become more confident and competent for the job The workshop will be taught by Mee Seong Kim, a certified business manner and image making professional who is a guest lecturer in Inha Technical College and Career Path Inc. If you don’t receive a reply, it could mean that Itaewon GVC staff did not receive your email. 5 On Thursday, June 21st, 10:30am-12:00pm, the Itaewon Global Village Center will hold a “Vegetarian Cooking Class: Temple (Vegan) Kimchi.” Kimchi is a staple in Korean cuisine, but it is quite difficult to find vegan kimchi. Traditionally, Koreans make use of shrimp paste and anchovy sauce as seasoning for Kimchi. However, temple Kimchi doesn’t use any animal-based seasonings. In this class, each participant will get to make their own cabbage kimchi (about 1kg each) and they will give us free “mukeun kimchi” or well- fermented kimchi. The basic concept of Vegetarian food is well known as “Temple food” in Korea. Buddhist monk seeks to the way of living nature by eating foods in its natural state. For this reason, their cooking style is focused on how it can derive the original taste itself from the each natural ingredient. The instructor for this session is Buddhist nun monk, and it may contain the Buddhist way of meditation. The venue of the class is near Anguk station (line 3). The participation fee is 30,000 won (kimchi ingredients are expensive). With animal agriculture linked to environmental degradation, global warming, antibiotic resistance and an epidemic of chronic disease, more and more people are choosing to eat more plant-based. Join plant-based lifestyle coach and Seoul Happy Cow Ambassador Marie Frenette to learn more about why this is, how easy it is to get started and how to avoid common pitfalls.
