J O S É M I G U E L P ÉREZ -S I E R R A – Conductor Considered to be one of the most talented conductors of his generation, Spanish-born José Miguel Pérez-Sierra shot to fame internationally after becoming the youngest conductor to take the podium at the ROF, Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro (Italy), where he conducted Il viaggio a Reims in 2006. That was the beginning of a shining career which has taken Pérez-Sierra to some of the most prestigious theatres, auditoriums and festivals, including Palau de les Arts in Valencia, Teatro Real de Madrid, Gran Teatre Liceu de Barcelona, Teatro de La Zarzuela de Madrid, Oviedo Opera, ABAO de Bilbao, Ópera de Pamplona, Teatre Principal de Palma de Mallorca, Teatro Municipal de Santiago de Chile, Rossini Opera Festival di Pesaro, Rossini Festival in Wildbad, Metz Opéra-Théâtre, Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Puccini Festival di Torre del Lago, Teatro Verdi di Trieste. He studied with Gabriele Ferro for four years and was his assistant at the San Carlo Theatre in Naples, at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo and at the Teatro Real in Madrid. He also studied with Gianluigi Gelmetti (Accademia Chigiana, Sienna) and Colin Metters (Royal Academy, London), to later become Alberto Zedda´s assistant from 2004 to 2009. In 2009 and 2010 he was Zedda´s assistant conductor at the Plácido Domingo Centre de Perfeccionament at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia. Much earlier, as a child, he began his musical studies by focusing on the piano with José Ferrándiz, a student of Claudio Arrau. He also studied virtuosity and musical phenomenology with José Cruzado. From 2009 to 2012 he had a close and fruitful relationship with Lorin Maazel, which was fundamental to his training, attending Maazel’s rehearsals both in Valencia and Munich. Some of the orchestras that he reguarly conducts are Orquesta de la Comunitat Valenciana, Sinfonica di Madrid, Orquesta de Radio Televisión Española (ORTVE), Filarmonica di Gran Canaria, Oviedo Filarmonia, Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid, Sinfonica de Navarra Pablo Sarasate, Sinfonica de Castilla y León, Sinfonica de Tenerife, Orquesta de Cordoba, Sinfonica de les Illes Balears, Orquesta Clásica de España, Symphony Orchestra Tiblisi (Georgia), Filarmonica di Montevideo, Filarmonica de Santiago (Cile), Robert Schumann Philharmonie, Orchestra del San Carlo di Napoli, Virtuosi Brunensis and the Protoguese Orquesta do Norte. He has developed strong ties with the Euskadiko Orkestra Sinfonikoa since 2012, always working with symphonic repertoire. In 2013 he recorded the Rossini opera Ricciardo e Zoraide for Naxos.
