Economic Structure and Trends in the Tohoku Region (1) Gross Product The Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) is 33.9 trillion yen, or 6.35% of the national total. ● In fiscal year 2015, the Tohoku region’s nominal GRDP was 33,889.4 billion yen, up 2.2% from the previous year, and 6.35% of the national total. Share of the construction industry rose to 10.5% due to reconstruction-related projects in the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011, which is 4.6 points increased, comparing with the share in 2010, before the earthquake.
