(ACS) Citation Style “Literature Cited” Examples

Ylvisaker Library Concordia College – Moorhead, MN American Chemical Society (ACS) Citation Style “Literature Cited” Examples The heading “Literature Cited”1 should appear at the beginning of a list of the works you cite in your text. The Literature Cited section should consist of a numbered list of references, single-spaced. Do not begin the Literature Cited section on a new page unless the previous page is full. Do not leave blank lines between references.2 Book Author, A.A. Title of Book, Edition Number; Series Information (if any); Publisher: Place of Publication, year. Example: O’Neil, P. Environmental Chemistry, 2nd ed.; Chapman & Hall: New York, 1993. Chapter, essay or article in a book Author, A.A. Title of Chapter. In Title of Book, Edition Number; Editor, Ed.; Series Information (if any); Publisher: Place of Publication, year; volume, first-last [page]. Example: Seinfeld, J. H.; Pandis, S. N. Atmospheric Composition, Global Cycles, and Lifetimes. In Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics: from Air Pollution to Climate Change; Wiley & Sons: New York, 1998; 49-124. Journal article Author, A. A.; Author B. B. Title of Article. Journal Abbreviation Year, volume, first-last [page]. Example: Lankey, R. L.; Anastas P. T. Life Cycle Approaches for Assessing Green Chemistry Technologies. Ind. Eng. Chem. Res. 2002, 41, 4498-4502. Journal article from an electronic database Author A. A. Title of Article.
