About Bodoland University Bodoland University was established by an act of the Assam Legislative Assembly on 28th February, 2009 with the objective of higher education accessible to students in lower Assam in general and to various communities in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD). This is the only University in the region providing quality higher education and plays important role in all round development of the people and the society of the region. The picturesque campus of Bodoland University at Debargaon in Kokrajhar is surrounded by several institutions of higher education and research. The university offers an ideal site for academic interaction and exchange of ideas across disciplines. The serene surroundings and excellent academic and infrastructural strengths make Bodoland University a perfect academic platform for traditional wisdom and contemporary knowledge. University is well connected by road and rail. This is also strategically located at a distance of 45 kms. from West Bengal, 50 kms. from Bhutan and 110 kms. from Bangladesh. This makes Bodoland University possible to cater to the needs of higher education for students from the neighboring countries, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal. 2 2. The University should be a breeding ground of new generation of human resource who would be job creators, not job seekers. 3. University Logo 3 The Logo of Bodoland University presents an eternal epistemological quest. It reflects on the motto of the University, viewed as a temple where knowledge is power, devotion, strenght and a journey in the continual wheel of life. Juxtaposing the socio-culture, economic, historical and Indian mythological images of rice grain, the usual pattern of Aronai and the lotus, it respectively stands for hard work, prosperity, art, divinity and purity. The pink Supreme Lotus untouched by the impurities despite growing in the mud encompasses new talents irrespective of one’s caste/creed/race/country, representing purity of heart and mind. The blending of traditional instruments like Siphung (flute), Kham (drum), Jotha and Serja (sarangi) resonate a soulful imaginative rhythm encouraging creativity, love and peace. Here the bright yellow colour usually akin to Chinese Dragon, Chinese ancient art and architecture reiterate the Mongoloid affinitied of the Bodos and also connects to their traditional dress, weaving and women participation. It is an all-inclusive emblem that disseminates light all around and within us to redeem and master newer horizons in the present and future. 4. Governance and Organizational Structure The University Court is the supreme policy making, governing and appellate body of the University to review the broad policies and programmes of University and to suggest measures for the improvement and development of such policies, programmes, work and other affairs, to consider and approve the budget, the annual statement of accounts, the audit report, to consider the annual report and to consider for approval Statutes submitted by the Executive Council.The Hon’ble Governor of Assam Prof. Jagdhish Mukhi is the Chancellor of the Bodoland University. The Chancellor is the Chairman of University Court the Highest Statutory Body of the University. The Executive Council have the power and authority to institute and confer degrees, diplomas, certificates, honorary degrees, and other academic distinctions, to institute fellowships, scholarships, prizes and other awards on the recommendations of Post-Graduate and Under-Graduate Boards and Academic Council, to create and appoint administrative, ministerial and other posts and to make provision for the emoluments, duties, and terms and conditions of service of employees of the University. Prof. Laishram Ladusingh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor is the Chairperson of the Executive Council.
