The University aims at disseminating and advancing knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities in all branches of learning. The knowledge acquired would in turn lead to improvement of the social and economic conditions and for the overall welfare of the people of the state. After its upgradation to central status Tripura University has developed considerably and efforts were taken to strengthen the infrastructural facilities in the academic arena vis-à-vis the overall development of the University. During the year 2013-2014 there are 34 Departments including 3 Centres offering 42 Courses in the Univer- sity. The total enrolment of students strength in the academic year is 2490, Male-1246, Female-1244. Under the Directorate of Distance Education, students’ enrolment during the year 2013-2014 is 8739; Male- 4399, Female- 4340. Number of Affiliated Colleges is 48. General Degree Colleges-23, Professional Colleges-18, Paramedical and Nursing Colleges-5 and Medical Colleges-2. The total student enrolment in the Affiliated Colleges increased to 40669 from 38114. There are 268 sanctioned posts of regular Teaching staff and 245 sanctioned posts of regular non-teaching staff including officers. About 60 guest and contract faculty members were hired. More than 50 eminent scholars lectured in the University as Visiting Professors and Fellows. In the academic year 2013-14, 25 Research Scholars have been awarded Ph.D. Degree of which 17 are from the Faculty of Science and 8 are from the Faculty of Arts & Commerce. There are 318 Ph.D. registered scholars doing research works in various subjects. In the academic year 2013-14, a total of 101 students qualified in NET/SET examinations. Out of which 58 students qualified in NET and 43 students qualified in SET. Number of Publications by the Faculty Members in Peer-Reviewed International Journals or Books is 132 and that in Peer-Reviewed National Journals or Books is 171. Number of ongoing Research Projects in the University sponsored by various funding agencies is 64 with a total fund of Rs.16,09,48,100. The number of Seminar/Workshop/Conference organized by the Departments including various Centres and Directorate of Distance Education is 39. Out of these 7 are National Seminars and there was one International Conference. Total number of books available in the Central Library is 122242 in various disciplines. Tripura University is also one of the member institutions in the UGC- INFONET e-journals Consortium. It also provides online access to 30907 e-Books, 8000 e-Journals and 10 databases from 22 publishers. The Central Library also provides CD based service. During the financial year 2013-2014, total receipt of the University including Plan and Non-plan Grants is Rs.42,05,68,065 and the total expenditure incurred by the University is Rs.35,36,39,741.
