opened with much anticipation for the 70 th Birthday celebrations, the State U13 Championship, the new playing surfaces at Downey Park and of course the start of a new season. What was not foreseen was the upheaval of many board positions. It was an honour to be elected to the position of President in July when due to personal reasons Robin Roberts had to resign. Robin’s contribution over the past few years has been commendable and all board members and committee members who came in contact with Robin would know that many of the policies and procedures that we now have in place were due to her dedication and endurance. To take stock of the situation at this point - we had lost our Vice- President, Sue Barsby, who took on a role in our development area but we were lucky enough to secure the services of Liz O’Connor who had in previous years been our Honorary Solicitor. Due to personal reasons Ruth Grim had to resign from Management – Infra-structure Portfolio (House and Grounds), this position was not filled and with myself stepping into President, the portfolio of Events and Marketing was left vacant. So in summary we were 2 people down on Management. But the strengths that enabled our association to get through the past 70 years, teamwork, dedication and communication came to the forefront. We finished the year i.e. we got through Presidents Cup, Jewels in Crown Game, Downey Park Dinner, BWHA President’s Medal Dinner and Grand Final Days. I would like to take this opportunity to thank management people: - Jenny Heron, Lyn Thomas, Kym Bell, Meg Brodie, Mary Cockings, Liz O’Connor and Desley Mackay; Administration Staff Kathy Duggan, Stacey Williamson, Sue Barsby and Louise Alexander; and the volunteers Joyce Proctor, Jenny Tidey, Keith Tidey and Caroline Schomberg for ensuring that all this did happen. One of the many highlights of the year was the State Under 13 Championship held at Downey Park in July. From all accounts the championship was a success and this was due to the work of Marilyn Chatfield and her never ending supply of volunteers.
