
<p>IMPALA FINALCONFERENCE <br>PRESENTATION </p><p><strong>Presented by: UL Community of Practice </strong></p><p><strong>University of Limpopo </strong></p><p><strong>8-10 November 2018, Cape Town, South Africa </strong></p><p><strong>WG 1 TRAINEES: INTERNATIONALIZATION STRATEGY </strong></p><p><strong>internationalisation strategy workshop and policy seminar </strong></p><p>After we have benchmarked with other South African universities and IMPALA and EU site visits the Office of International Affairs embarked on a five day policy seminar on internationalisation strategy workshop at Magoebaskloof Hotel, polokwane facilited by Mr Makhubela Jabu, and with colleagues Ms Mothiba BP and Mr Makamu VM and two student assistant Mr Mangaka C and Ms Chuene A. </p><p>The aim of the workshop was to draft an internationalisation strategy and policy </p><p>which will be the guiding principle with regard to internationalisation. The draft inetrnationalisation stragy and policy have been sent to the council and awaiting approval. </p><p>Working Gr: 1 Strategy Doc </p><p>On the 28th May 2018 Jabu conducted a workshop on management of international student and Immigration Laws. Participants in the workshop were Seniour managers and Executive Management of the university, DVC’s, Executive </p><p>Deans, Registarar & Directors. </p><p><strong>Internationalisation strategy workshop </strong></p><p>University of Limpopo hosted a one day high level strategic workshop on internaltionalisation stratey facilitated by European and South African experts, on the 20th February 2018. </p><p> The workshops were organised as a follow up to the site visits for the leadership </p><p>of the 4 South African partner universities in June 2017 in order to support each partner institution in their strategic development through a tailored approach. </p><p> The need was expressed by the universities as a reaction to <br>IMPALA bringing together within each university communities of practice with a set of tools stemming from the training at the Training Week and the follow-up workshops in September 2017. </p><p>Having the leadership of the IMPALA partner universities </p><p>exchange with their European counterparts on different internationalisation models, it was agreed to bring the two groups together (leadership and IMPALA communities of practice staff) and map each institution’s current position and strategic perspective for the future. </p><p>Working Gr: 1 Strategy Doc </p><p> The workshop at the <strong>University of Limpopo</strong>, organised by the <br>UL, gathered around 20 participants from different parts and levels of the two institutions (Vice-Chancellors, Deputy ViceChancellors, Deans, Directors, IRO staff). The University of Limpopo is represented by Mr Kgalema Mashamaite. No working paper or academic article written thus far. </p><p> The group was tasked with organising round table discussions, seminars, public lectures, etc. about the Decolonisation, Africanisation, and Internationalisation of the Curriculum and writing a standing position at university level. Involving the students into a debate about the Decolonisation, Africanisation, and Internationalisation of the Curriculum. </p><p>Working Gr: 3 Internationalization </p><p>of theCurriculum </p><p>The group in conjunction with the Department of Public Administration in collaboration and School of Economics and Management, Faculty of Management and Law, University of Limpopo hosted a public lecture themed ‘De-colonisation of the Curriculum of Public Administration: A Comparative Public Administration Perspective’ on the 09<sup style="top: -0.35em;">th </sup>May 2017. The Keynote Speaker was </p><p>Professor JO Kuye, a Senior and Full Professor of Public Administration and Public Policy at the </p><p>University of Pretoria. To hold a conference in 2018. </p><p>3.1 Decolonisation of the curriculum andAfricanization </p><p>A proposed conference is to be facilitated and organised by IMPALA Project Leaders and Coordinators, thus so far no details of the conference yet. </p><p> To design a database for information about the topic on IMPALA website for easy access. He is a graduate of University of Limpopo, where he received an Honours Degree in Human Resources Management and a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration. </p><p>After graduating he joined International Affairs Department at UL where he is currently working as an International Affairs Practitioner. Jabu worked with so many different people in high positions, creating numerous good networking locally and internationally. He is a diversified person which is self-explanatory in his ability to work with people from different ethnic </p><p>groups, countries and backgrounds. </p><p>Some of the international funded projects that he is involved in to further enhance internationalisation at UL: He together with colleagues from 3 Universities in South Africa (CPUT, UL, UFH and UNIVEN) and 3 Universities in <br>Europe successfully applied for funding from the EU for the IMPALA EU project. The project received a sum of 1 Million Euros for duration of 3 years (2016-2018) for capacity building in Higher Education. </p><p> He together with 5 colleagues from Universities in South Africa, 3 in Mozambique and 3 in Europe successfully applied for funding from EU for the LaTFURE project. The project received the sum of 1 Million Euros for a duration of 3 years (2017- 2019. His research, teaching or pedagogical interest is development policy, planning and management. More specifically, his </p><p>areas of interest include local economic development, entrepreneurship and small </p><p>business development, community development planning, strategic planning and management, rural and social development; and integrated development planning. He is involved in supervision of honours, Primary Healthcare and Masters Research projects in the Department of nursing Science. I </p><p>have the following degrees, B. A. (Microbiology) - Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, </p><p>USA, and M.Sc. (Veterinary Science) – University of Pretoria, South Africa. Currently, I am engaged in several research projects that involve Indigenous Knowledge Systems, specifically, the scientific validation of the use of indigenous medicinal plants. I have been involved in internationalization activities that involve human capacity building by studying for a degree in Microbiology at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, USA, and participated in the student exchange program in Bioentrepreneurship in Switzerland. I have published several papers in peer-reviewed journals, introducing and teaching biotechnology courses to the students and the community in the University of Limpopo. Annah is also a student leader and has held various leadership positions in her life within the university setting and community context including the IMPALA Mobility Toolkit track.
