Steps for setting up of MSME 18 2 Brief Industrial Profile of _Hingoli District 1) General Characteristics Of The District:- Hingoli district has been separated from Parbhani district and existed as a independent district from 01.05.1999. It is one of the eight districts of Marathwada. It is located at eastern site of Maharashtra State. The geographical area of the district is 4526 Sq. kms. which is 1.47% of area of the Maharashtra State. It comprises of five talukas viz. Hingoli, Basmath, Aundha, Nagnath, Kalamnuri and Sengaon. Majority of districts population is engaged in agricultural activities and there is little industrialization in the district. Majority of its population lives in rural areas. The literacy rate of Hingoli district is 66.86% as compared to 76.9% of Maharashtra. Out of 12 main Jyotirling in the country, one of the Aundha Naganath Jyotirling situated in the district. 1.1) Location & Geographical Area:- Hingoli is situated at the northern part of Marathwada in Maharashtra. Borders of Hingoli are surrounded by Akola and Yeotmal in northern side, Parbhani in Western side and Nanded at South-Eastern side. The district came into existence by division of Parbhani district on 1 st May, 1999. Latitude of Hingoli district is 19.43 N and Longitude is 77.11 E. 1.2) Climate and Rainfall: - In Hingoli district, monsoon starts from the month of June and ends in September. In the remaining period the weather is very dry. The average rainfall in the district is 895 mm. The maximum temperature of the district is 42.6 degree Celsius and minimum temperatures are 10.6 Degree Celsius. 1.3. Area and Topography: - The district has a grographical area of 4526 sq.kms. which forms 1.47% of the total geographical area of Maharashtra State. The Sengaon, Hingoli and 3 Aundhanaganath tehsils of the district are surrounded by small hills. The district is 600 meters high from sea level. 1.4. Soil:- The soil of the district is Black and very fertile for cultivation of crops. 1.5 Rivers:- Purna, Penganga & Kayadhu rivers are in the District. A) Painganga River : Painganga river is the main river in the district. It flows in the northern region of the district. The river passes through Sengaon and Kalamnuri talukas. B) Purna River : Purna river flows from Southern part of Sengaon. It flows further south from Aundha and Basmat talukas. C) Kayadhu River : This is also main river and flows through Sengaon, Hingoli, Aundha, Nagnath and Kalamnuri. It meets further to Painganga river in Nanded district. 1.6 Availability of Minerals:- There are no major minerals available in the district. However, sand & stones, which are required for construction of buildings are available in the district. 1.7. Forest:- The total area under forest is about 37700 hectares, which is about 7.96% of the district’s geographical area. The major forest area in the district is in Aundha taluka which is about 10432 hectares. The forest produce includes Beedi leaves, gum, honey, etc. 1.8. Population:- As per 2001 census, the population in Hingoli district is 987160. The rural population of the district is 84.40% and urban population is 15.60% only. The density of population in the district is 218 per sq. kms. while that of the State is 315 per sq. kms. The Hingoli taluka is the most populated area 4 where as Kalamnuri taluka has the least population. The Female-Male ratio of population in the district is 957 per 1000 male. The literacy rate in the district is 66.86%. The literacy rate of Male and female is 81.11 % and 51.96% respectively 1.9. Occupational Structure:- As per 2001 census, the district has 4.60 lakhs total workers, out of which 89.75% are main workers and 10.25% are marginal workers. The total workforce in the district is 46.60% of total district’s population. Out of total 4.60 lakhs workers, 82.89% are engaged in agriculture and allied activities, 1.47% in cottage and household industries. The district is still on agrarian century with very little industrial growth. There are about 72687 families i.e. 46.59% are living below poverty line in Hingoli district. As per the District Employment Exchange there were about 35116 persons in the live register as on 31.3.2005. 2.0) Administrative set up: The State of Maharashtra, consisting of 35 districts, is divided into six administrative divisions, viz. Konkan, Nashik, Pune, Aurangabad and Nagpur.
