Hopefully, this is the last one, as the country gets to grip with Covid-19 which has been the biggest pandemic in recent times and has affected the lives of everyone over the last year. The launch of the new vaccines sees light at the end of the tunnel. We await the latest news at the end of February, in which we hope for government restrictions to be lifted shortly, and a return to recreational sport will see cricket return for the start of the 2021 season. Making the most of his time in lockdown, the League Statistician has now updated the records for the Kent Regional Cricket League. We bring you Version 3, which includes all the facts and figures from the shortened 2020 season. At present, we still do not know what is going to happen over the next few months; let us just hope we get the opportunity to add another full chapter in due course. Fingers crossed and stay positive! Version 3 of the KRCL records now takes into account all matches played in the League from 2003, up to the end of the 2020 season. The records comprise some fantastic achievements over the last two decades, and certain individuals have certainly played a lot of cricket! This is a great testament to the popularity and the success of the KRCL over this period. There is also a detailed section for each club containing specific milestones. For the observant reader, you will note that the Kent Regional Cricket League was founded in 2010 when the existing East and West Kent Feeder Leagues merged. The current records go back to 2003, and in time hopefully we will be able to dig out additional records from before this period. Records show that the league officially started in 1974 and was known as the Mid-Kent League. This ran until 2000, when there was a split and the West Feeder League started. In 2001, the Mid-Kent changed its name to the East Kent Feeder League and the recent history since then is well documented. Over time, we will try and add to these amazing records, but we will probably need your help. Tracking down old scorebooks is not an easy job, so if you come across any, Andy and myself will be delighted to hear from you. Going forwards, please ensure that your scorecards are loaded correctly and containing all the facts and figures. This will help us achieve an even better history of the League over future seasons. All that leaves me to say is a HUGE thank you to Andy Lynch for his amazing work in compiling this document. Please thank Andy if you get a chance, I know many people are keen to see records such as these. Brian Smith Kent Cricket League Administrator Kent Regional Cricket League Administrator 8 Editorial It’s a year since the last edition of this records book was issued, a year which has turned the entire world on its head. The pandemic has left no-one untouched, and the playing of any sport has understandably been at the back of our minds for much of that time. Yet there is room for some cautious optimism. With the success of the vaccine, it does seem that we may get the majority of the season, if not indeed all of it. So I hope that this turns out to be the precursor to an enjoyable and fulfilling 2021 season for everyone. Changes this year are light, although we did manage to get some league cricket in, and the records have been updated accordingly. As ever, if anyone spots any errors then do let me know. Look after yourselves, stay safe, and hopefully we’ll all get the chance to meet up again in the not too distant future.
