For the Church throughout the world as we rejoice in announcing the Good News of the coming of the Lord, let us pray to the Lord. For justice and peace to spring up among all nations and peoples, let us pray to the Lord. For those who are poor, for the brokenhearted, for all who need to hear glad tidings, let us pray to the Lord. For those who are oppressed, held captive, or in prison, for all who yearn for liberty, let us pray to the Lord. For those who are distressed or burdened by the upcoming holidays, especially during this continuing pandemic, for all who need a word of kindness, let us pray to the Lord. For all those who are sick, for all who suffer from COVID-19, let us pray to the Lord. For all the prayers that we hold in the silence of our hearts; for all our intentions spoken and unspoken, let us pray to the Lord. Almighty God, you have done great things for your people, and holy is your name. Graciously hear these our prayers and grant them through your Son, Jesus Christ, whose day draws near. Copyright © J. BARBARA’S PARISH NEWS 2021 New Year’s—Schedule of Liturgies SOLEMNITY OF MARY, MOTHER OF GOD (not a holy day of obligation in the ecclesiastical province of Los Angeles, in- cluding Orange ) NEW YEAR’S EVE - VIGIL MASSES Thursday December 31st, 2020 3:00 PM – Vietnamese 4:00 PM – Vietnamese NEW YEAR’S DAY Friday, January 1st, 2021 8:15 AM – English 10:00 AM – Spanish 12:00 PM – Vietnamese 3:00 PM – Vietnamese JOHN THE BAPTIST At a school open house a woman could be overheard intro- ducing her husband to some of the other parents. “Oh, Bill, I’d like you to meet Johnny’s father. And over here, this is Marie’s mom; you know, the little girl from our Ellen’s soccer team.” With satisfied resignation Bill introduced himself not by name: “I’m Ellen’s Dad.” It’s good to know who you are. Be it someone’s father or moth- er, son or daughter, husband or wife, it’s important to embrace the full meaning of our various roles. John the Baptist knows who he is. And who he is not. He is not the Christ. Nor Elijah. Nor like any other prophet God’s people had ever seen. John the Baptist knows his mission is divine. He’s more than satisfied to be the one to announce the coming of God’s reign. The Christ is near. Make straight your paths. Copyright © J. S. BARBARA’S PARISH NEWS Following is a statement from the bish- ops of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange, regarding COVID-19 vaccines. The Bishops of the Roman Catholic Dio- cese of Orange fully support the California Catholic Conference’s statement on the COVID-19 vaccinations. After thorough research and reviewing the statement from the Pontifical Academy for Life, we find the vaccines morally acceptable and imperative in the ongoing effort to curb the coronavirus pandemic. We are hope- ful and encouraged by the promise these scientific breakthroughs represent, and urge the 1.3 million Catholics in Orange County to take any and all appropriate steps to protect themselves and their fam- ilies. We pray for them as we pray for the world. We still have much work to do, but we now have hope and a path forward rooted in the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. We place our trust and confidence in the providence of God.”
