Using a community based approach, Connected Warriors strives to partner with all agencies that benefit veterans and their families. Connected Warriors acts as a leading advocate for veterans, active duty military, and veteran services with local, state, and the federal government." connectedwarriors.org ARTIST - Denise Griffin Denise has loved painting with watercolors for as long as she can remember. With a fine arts education and years of illustration experience, she has taught art classes to children and adults for over thirty years. Denise is also passionate about yoga and credits her daily practice for keeping her body and mind in a peaceful place, allowing her creativity to flow. It is from this source of calm that Denise has developed much of her work, including a collection of images she calls the Yoginis. Using soothing colors and nature-based elements, this series of original paintings of women in classic yoga poses has been widely reproduced as giclée prints and greeting cards. Denise's latest series, the American Warriors, was a direct response to the growing movement to support the health and healing of veterans, first responders, and their families. Her goal is to create a series of images that are peaceful and filled with hope. As the daughter of a career officer, this project is very dear to her heart. dgriffinpaints.com OUR STORY - Judy Weaver and Beau MacVane Judy is a yoga teacher living in South Florida who has gained wide recognition for her unique ability to guide her teachers and students to achieve their full potential. In 2007, Judy met Beau MacVane, a strapping 6’4″ Army Ranger, who after returning home from his fourth tour of duty in Iraq, contracted Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Beau asked Judy to teach him yoga so he could stay as strong and connected to his body as humanly possible as he fought his terminal illness. Over the next several years Judy watched in awe as Beau was able to use her instruction, and his determination, to battle the decline of his physical body. What arose was a mental focus and a self-awareness that changed them both. When Beau passed away, surrounded by his loving family and friends, he left with a peace of mind more powerful than any physical limitation. Judy’s passion in offering her skill to the military is dedicated to the Warrior Spirit of Beau MacVane and his family. Thank you to Robert Sturman, for your continuing humanitarian efforts raising awareness about the healing powers of yoga. robertsturmanstudios.com .
