INTERNATIONAL SKATING UNION Communication No. 2113 ISU Course for Speed Skating Starters The ISU decided to hold a course for Speed Skating Starters, which will be organized by the ISU Speed Skating Technical Committee and Norwegian Skating Association (NSF), as hosting ISU Speed Skating Member in: Hamar, Norway, October 20 – 23, 2017 Program The course will cover all main aspects of the starting procedure and focus on the role and the tasks of Starters at ISU Championships, ISU World Cup Competitions and other major International Competitions. The primary part of the course will be held at the indoor speed skating rink at the Hamar Olympic Hall "Vikingskipet", http://vikingskipet.com/, where the participants will encounter practical experience as Starters during the two days of the "Norges Cup 1", an International Competition announced in ISU Communication No. 2107, being held on October 21-22, 2017. Group work and workshops will be a main part of the course program. Therefore it is very important that all participants have sufficient experience as Starters and are able to communicate well in English. Opening of the Course: Friday, October 20, 2017 at 17:00: Registration and Opening End of the Course: Monday, October 23, 2017 at 10:00: Closing Location (official hotel): Clarion Collection Hotel Astoria https://www.nordicchoicehotels.com/ Torggata 23, P.O.Box 123 Hamar, Norway, Tel: +4 62707000 E-mail: [email protected] Course Management Course Coordinators: Alexander Kibalko and Øystein Haugen, ISU SS Technical Committee Course Administrators: Marcel Lesche Vanberg (NOR) and Ole Hermann Sørli (NOR) Course Moderators: Garth Linder (USA) and Andre de Vries (NED), ISU Starters Participants The course is open to the following categories of participants: 1) ISU Starters (Starters for ISU Championships), as defined in Rule 121, paragraph b) and listed in ISU Communication No. 2099; 2) Experienced International Starters (named in ISU Communication No. 2099) who are considered for nomination to the 2018/19 list of ISU Starters; 3) Experienced International Starters (named in ISU Communication No. 2099) from ISU Members who will be hosting ISU Speed Skating Championships or ISU World Cup Speed Skating Competitions during the season 2017/18 and/or 2018/19. For capacity reasons only a very limited number of participants from categories 2) and 3) above will be admitted. The ISU may request evidence that entered participants have the necessary qualifications. If visas are needed, please contact the NSF as soon as possible to receive a letter of invitation for named participants. ISU Members concerned will be informed at the latest by September 22, 2017 if some of the entered Starters will not be accepted as participants at the course. Expenses and financial contributions The ISU will cover accommodation costs in the official hotel and meal expenses from the dinner on October 20, 2017 up to and including breakfast on October 23, 2017 for the following participants: • all attending ISU Starters; • a maximum of one International Starter per ISU Member (in addition to ISU Starters from the respective ISU Member due to attend). Accommodation costs for any additional participants or for participants arriving prior or departing later than the dates stated above will have to be borne by the ISU Member concerned. For ISU Starters (participants in category 1) above) from outside Europe, the ISU will pay a travel contribution to a maximum of 1’000 Swiss francs (CHF 1’000.--) per participant. For participants from Europe no travel contribution will be paid. Travel contributions will be transferred to the ISU Member concerned, provided that a travel contribution request and relevant flight ticket receipts have been sent to the ISU Secretariat before December 1, 2017. Travel contributions will only be paid on the condition that the participants are in attendance during the whole duration of the course. Travel information There are direct train connection between Oslo International Airport "Gardermoen" and the Hamar train station. Take NSB train (https://www.nsb.no/en) towards Lillehammer, alight at Hamar station. Duration of the trip is 50 minutes, departures every hour. The price for a one-way ticket is 178 NOK (app. 19 Euro). Official hotel is within walking distance from Hamar train station (300m). Other conditions It is extremely important that ISU Starters attend this course in order to maintain their activity in accordance with the ISU Regulations. International Starters considered for future nomination as ISU Starters should attend the course in order to prove and improve their qualifications for such a nomination. All lectures, discussions and examinations will be conducted in English, and no interpretation will be offered. It is expected that those Starters attending the course will take further initiatives to organize similar courses in their own country.
