We are very excited that you are here and look forward to spending this time with you. Orientation is designed to help students prepare for college and to assist family members in understanding their student’s transition. Over a two day period, you will be attending presentations and programs that have been specifically designed for students and families. The Holopaw, a Creek Indian word meaning “pathways”, is your guide to campus while at orientation and beyond. We believe that orientation will serve as the first step in your journey toward becoming part of the rich heritage that is Florida State University. In the following pages you will find your orientation schedule. Some of the programs are together with your family and guests, while others are not. We ask that you only attend sessions that are on your schedule. You will be given the same information throughout orientation and have plenty of time to speak with each other. Please remember that students are required to attend all of their orientation programs before they will be cleared for course registration and attendance will be carefully taken during sessions. In addition to the schedule, we have provided information about our campus resources —offices and departments, programs and events, and numerous engagement opportunities that we encourage students and families to utilize and experience during their time at Florida State. Within the Holopaw you will find the names and photos of the 2016 Orientation Leaders. Orientation Leaders are current Florida State University students who will serve as your liaisons to campus. These students are campus experts and are here to assist you in your transition to FSU, so please feel free to ask them anything! We hope that you enjoy orientation and, more importantly, that you leave campus feeling excited about Florida State University! If at any point and time during the college experience you find yourself in need of guidance, please feel free to contact New Student & Family Programs. Have a great visit and best wishes for your FSU experience. These torches represent the purpose of the University: to pass on knowledge from generation to generation. The torch on the left, Vires, signifies strength of all kinds – physical, moral, and intellectual. Artes, the torch in the center, denotes the knowledge we acquire that transcends skills and embraces the appreciation of beauty. The final torch, Mores, encompasses customs, characters and tradition. Through these three values, the physical, mental, and moral growth of the Florida State University student is fostered. 7 ORIENTATION LEADERS 8 2016 ORIENTATION LEADERS Hannah Akil Sarah Michael Sophina Andrade Sam Antoury Jonas Baptiste Anderson Team Leader Haley Barrett Scott Brennan Lauren Chambers Nell Clark Katelyn Clarke Kirston Clifton Austin Crawford Allona Douglas Vinny Franco Emely Galan Team Leader Lizzi Grant Max Hoffman Tav Horne Rashard Johnson Jenny Karpinski Team Leader 9 Peter Kreutzer Ana Landon Taylor Lorenz Savannah MacIsaac Charles Maggitas Audrey McKinney Jenn Menjivar Casey Taylor Ney Stacey Pierre Mindermann Lauren Pleasants Nikki Reyes Fernando Amber Roach Malcolm Robbs Ritzinger Kyle Sailer Stephen Soto Jenna Staub Hannah Ward Shawn Whyte Team Leader 10 THIS IS A GREEN DOT B O Y M L I Z S E T S I A THAT CAN BE USED TO survivors VIolence IT IS YOUR INDIVIDUAL TO MAKE YOUR COMMUNITY SAFER knowmore.fsu.edu/greendot 11 12 13 14 Become a Global Citizen!
