Austin Gomez (9, 9, 9), Ian Parker (14, 18, 12), Jarrett Degen (11, 11, 8), Marcus Coleman (NR, NR, 24), Sam Colbray (19, 17, 16) and Willie Miklus (4, 6, 4) all stand in the 8 at UNI Open 3 Champs national InterMat, FloWrestling and Trackwrestling rankings. 16 Ohio W, 33-6 5. Scoring points has been a point of emphasis for the Cyclones in 2018-19. In dual action, the Cyclones have six JANUARY wrestlers who are averaging eight or more points per dual match. 1-2 at Southern Scuffl e 3rd Place 6. Austin Gomez and Jarrett Degen have been trailblazers for Iowa State’s off ensive output. Degen leads the team in takedowns with 14, averaging just under fi ve per dual contest. Gomez leads the team in four-point nearfalls with 9 *North Dakota State 7 p.m. three on the season. Both are a perfect 3-0 on the year in dual contests. 13 *Fresno State 2 p.m. 17 Rider 7 p.m 7. ISU is fresh off of a third-place fi nish at the 2019 Southern Scuffl e where Iowa State had eight medalists, including a 20 *West Virginia 1 p.m. runner-up performance from Austin Gomez. 25 *Oklahoma 7 p.m. 8. This was the fi rst time that Iowa State had fi nished in the top-4 at a national tournament since the 2014 Cliff Keen 27 * at Oklahoma State 2 p.m. Las Vegas invitational. 9. The Cyclones ended 2018 on a high note with a dominant 33-6 victory over Ohio. FEBRUARY 10. Iowa State took No. 3 Iowa down to the wire, falling to the Hawks 19-18. The two teams split in matches won in the 1 *South Dakota State 7 p.m. dual, 5-5, but a major decision at 125 pounds proved to be the deciding factor late in the dual. 3 *Utah Valley 2 p.m. 11. 28 Cyclones competed at the UNI Open. 10 ISU grapplers fi nished in the top-6 of their brackets, including 11 at Oregon State 5 p.m. championship performances from Alex Mackall, David Carr and Marcus Coleman. 17 Last Chance Open 9 a.m. 12. Austin Gomez, Ian Parker, Jarrett Degen, Marcus Coleman and Sam Colbray are all a perfect 3-0 on the season in 21 *at Northern Iowa 7 p.m. duals this year. 24 Missouri 2 p.m. 13. Iowa State rolled through SIU-E 37-3 to begin the season. In the dual, the Cyclones won nine of the 10 bouts. It was the largest victory (34) and most points scored (37) by an ISU team since Iowa State beat George Mason 39-2 at the MARCH Virginia Duals on Jan. 8, 2016. 9-10 #Big 12 Championship (Tulsa, Okla.) 14. The Cyclones had a solid showing at the Lindenwood Open. In total, seven ISU grapplers reached the fi nals in the Open Division, with Austin Gomez, Jarrett Degen, Daid Carr and Willie Miklus all bringing home titles. In his fi rst season at Iowa State, Dresser took a team that won just one dual in 2016-17 and led them to an 8-10 dual mark. At 149 pounds, Jarrett Degen qualifi ed for the national tournament and wrestled to the round of 12 before being eliminated. Iowa State Athletics Director Jamie Pollard aimed high during the DEREK ST. JOHN BRENT METCALF ROBIN WILSON search with the goal of returning the Cyclone wrestling program 2nd Season 2nd Season 2nd Season to national prominence. He has coached 65 NCAA Championship qualifi ers, 20 NAME WEIGHT YEAR HOMETOWN/HIGH SCHOOL All-Americans and fi ve ACC Most Outstanding Wrestlers.
