HELLENIC REPUBLIC HELLENIC STATISTICAL AUTHORITY Piraeus, September 10, 2019 PRESS RELEASE ISSUING OF MOTOR VEHICLE LICENSES: AUGUST 2019 The Hellenic Statistical Authority announces that in August 2019, 17,350 road motor cars (both new and used from abroad) were put into circulation for the first time, recording a 20.2% increase compared with the corresponding month of 2018 when the number of road motor cars was 14,434. In August 2018, a 36.8% increase had been observed in comparison with the corresponding month of 2017 (Table 1, Graphs 1,2,3,5). A total number of 10,407 new cars were put into circulation in August 2019 compared with 8,171 in August 2018, recording a 27.4% increase. The new motorcycles over 50cc (both new and used from abroad) that were put into circulation for the first time in August 2019 amounted to 3,497, against 3,112 in 2018, thus recording a 12.4% increase. In August 2018, a 19.1% increase had been observed in comparison with the corresponding month of 2017 (Table 1, Graph 4). Out of the above motorcycles 3,190 were new, while the corresponding figure in August 2018 was 2,834, recording a 12.6% increase. During the period January - August 2019, 158,038 road motor cars (both new and used from abroad) were put into circulation for the first time, representing an increase of 12.0% compared to the corresponding period of 2018 when the number of road motor cars was 141,076. During the period January - August 2018 an increase of 28.1% had been observed in comparison with the corresponding period of 2017 (Table 3, Graphs 6,7). Out of the above number of road motor cars that were put into circulation, from January to August 2019, 92,863 were new, while the corresponding number during the respective period of 2018 was 84,083, recording an increase of 10.4%. During the period January - August 2019 the circulation of new motorcycles over 50cc (both new and used from abroad) amounted to 30,488 against 27,401 in 2018, thus representing an 11.3% increase. An increase of 22.0% had been observed during the period January - August 2018 in comparison with the corresponding period of 2017 (Table 3, Graphs 6,7). A total number of 27,807 new motorcycles were put into circulation, from January to August 2019, compared with 24,867 during the corresponding period of 2018, recording an 11.8% increase.
