It was their opponents' heaviest European defeat and their first in the section, leaving them level with Young Boys on four points – three fewer than Roma and three more than fourth-placed CSKA-Sofia. Previous meetings • CFR have fond memories of their first meeting with Roma as it was the club's very first UEFA Champions League fixture, on Matchday 1 of the 2008/09 season, and they beat their Italian hosts at the Stadio Olimpico 2-1. Roma, however, won the return in Romania 3-1 and also got the better of CFR when the clubs were paired again in the competition's group stage two years later, winning 2-1 at home and drawing 1-1 away. In both campaigns Roma went through to the round of 16 while CFR went out. • CFR's only victory in four home games against Italian opposition came in the most recent, on Matchday 1 of last season's UEFA Europa League, when they came from behind to beat Roma's city rivals Lazio 2-1. Their record before that was D1 L2. • Roma have never lost in Romania, though three of their four matches there have been draws, two of them goalless. The only win is that 3-1 success against CFR 12 years ago. Form guide CFR • CFR completed a hat-trick of Romanian league titles in 2019/20, making it six in all, while also enjoying a club-record 16-match European campaign that began in the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round and ended in the UEFA Europa League round of 32, where they provided stiff opposition for Sevilla, going out to the eventual winners only on the away goals rule (1-1 h, 0-0 a). • Having lost seven of their first eight fixtures in the UEFA Europa League proper, in 2009/10 and 2012/13, CFR recorded 12 points to finish runners-up in their group last season behind Celtic. Ousted from this season's UEFA Champions League on penalties by Dinamo Zagreb in the second qualifying round after a 2-2 home draw, they subsequently beat the champions of Sweden (Djurgården 1-0 away) and Finland (KuPS 3-1 at home) to reach the UEFA Europa League group stage for the third time. • Penalty shoot-outs aside, CFR are unbeaten in their last seven European home games (W4 D3). They won all three in last season's UEFA Europa League group stage, against Lazio, Rennes (1-0) and Celtic (2-0), before drawing 1-1 against Young Boys on Matchday 2. Roma • Roma finished fifth in Serie A last term to qualify for the UEFA Europa League group stage for the second season running and fourth time in all. Paulo Fonseca's side were defeated 2-0 by eventual winners Sevilla in last season's round of 16, which remains the furthest the club has gone in the competition – though they were UEFA Cup runners- up in 1990/91. • The Giallorossi's third participation in the UEFA Europa League group stage, like the previous two, resulted in qualification for the knockout phase, although unlike in 2009/10 and 2016/17 they did not top their group, finishing second to İstanbul Başakşehir despite beating the Turkish club home (4-0) and away (3-0). Their only other European win last season was 1-0 at home to Gent in the first leg of the round of 32 (1-1 a). • Roma's 2-1 win at Young Boys on Matchday 1 was only their second victory in their last eight European matches outside Rome (D2 L4). Their overall away record in the UEFA Europa League group stage, however, is W4 D4 L2, with wins in the two most recent fixtures. Links and trivia • Roma striker Edin Džeko is one game away from his 100th appearance in UEFA club competition. The Bosnia and Herzegovina international has scored 41 goals in his 99 European matches. • CFR coach Dan Petrescu has a strong connection to Italy. He spent three seasons there as a Serie A player (Foggia 1991–93, Genoa 1993/94) and played both the first and last of his 95 matches for the Romanian national side against Italy. • CFR's two Croatian players have both spent time in Italy; midfielder Damjan Djoković with Monza, Cesena, Bologna, Livorno and Spezia, and striker Gabriel Debeljuh with Torino, Piacenza, Mantova and Este. • Jakub Vojtuš, CFR's Slovakian forward, spent three years in Milan at youth level with Internazionale, winning the 4 CFR 1907 Cluj - AS Roma Thursday 26 November 2020 - 21.00CET (22.00 local time) Match press kit Stadionul Dr. Constantin Rădulescu, Cluj-Napoca prestigious Primavera title in 2011/12. 5 CFR 1907 Cluj - AS Roma Thursday 26 November 2020 - 21.00CET (22.00 local time) Match press kit Stadionul Dr. Constantin Rădulescu, Cluj-Napoca Team facts CFR 1907 Cluj Formed: 1907 Nickname: Feroviarii (Railwaymen) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • UEFA Intertoto Cup: (2005) Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 6 (2020) Romanian Cup: 4 (2016) Ten-year European record (UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2019/20: round of 32 (having transferred from UEFA Champions League play-offs) 2018/19: play-offs (having transferred from UEFA Champions League second qualifying round) 2017/18: did not take part in UEFA competition 2016/17: did not take part in UEFA competition 2015/16: did not take part in UEFA competition 2014/15: third qualifying round 2013/14: did not take part in UEFA competition 2012/13: round of 32 (having transferred from UEFA Champions League group stage) 2011/12: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2010/11: UEFA Champions League group stage Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 5-0: CFR v Alashkert 16/08/18, UEFA Europa League third qualifying round second leg • Biggest away win 1-4: Vėtra v CFR 26/06/05, UEFA Intertoto Cup first round second leg • Heaviest home defeat 0-4: CFR v Bayern München 03/11/10, UEFA Champions League group stage • Heaviest away defeat 5-0: Roma v CFR 05/11/20, UEFA Europa League group stage UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League • Biggest home win 5-0: CFR v Alashkert (see above) • Biggest away win 0-2 twice, most recently v CSKA-Sofia 22/10/20, group stage • Heaviest home defeat 0-3: CFR v Internazionale 21/02/13, round of 32 second leg • Heaviest away defeat 5-0: Roma v CFR (see above) AS Roma Formed: 1927 Nickname: Giallorossi (Yellow and Reds) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • European Cup: (1984) • UEFA Cup: (1991) Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 3 (2001) 6 CFR 1907 Cluj - AS Roma Thursday 26 November 2020 - 21.00CET (22.00 local time) Match press kit Stadionul Dr.
